NowGamer: Audio director Marty O'Donnell has said Bungie doesn't make games for profit, publishers, or critical acclaim, it only makes games for its fans, "Corporations are all about management and profit..."
Now this is something I can respect. Kojima is the same way.
Kinda wish Bungie would do a new franchise though. And this time alittle more realistic plz. @Rich1631 Depends. The center word of all developers mindmaps should be "FUN" the rest either the game is arcady or realistic doesn't matter as long as it's fun. I prefer having the game as realistic and fun as possible because imo you can't beat battling out against each other in a scenery looking so realistic you can almost smell it. Working as a team to accomplish a set goal.
maybe that's why the left MSFT to have more freedom.
Realism is overated. I'll take the "arcadyness" of Halo and Call of Duty 4 anyday. Socom: Confrontation and GTA IV are perfect examples of too much realism, both are BORING AS HELL, and well Socom is just an all around bad game. :)
For it's fans ... man that almost brings a tear to my eye. I love companies who love their fans. Bungie gives back to the community 100%. A real class act, I wish a lot more companies are like this.
always talking as if they have inside info about whats going on internaly within these company's Bungie has always said they have a great relationship with micro and Halo ODST is proof of that. The split means that they wanted to be fully independent, they love making games not for profit but because people/fans enjoy their work, so being independent means that OTHER future IP's *could be on multiplatforms and thats great news for gamers because these guys support the hell out of their work and their fcking awesome at what they do. JOY
Blizzard is pretty good to their fans. Let's see what happens with Stacraft II especially considering the Activision Blizzard merger.
Could this be the reason why they separated from Microsoft?
They separated because their contract was up. They became a privately held independent company. But they are developing ODST to keep their community and fans happy at their own free choice.
but they could have reinstated the contract and still given fans love. plus have the gzbillion dollars of funds from MSFT
Yeah they could have went back but didnt want to thats says it all
They make games for a SICK amount of profit! :) Seriously...keep it up, Bungie. Always looking forward to what you've got in store.
'never gunna let you/us sony fanboys forget it' profit:) kudos to them anyway and good luck to them
yeah Bungie are really good devs, put alot of work into their games. I thank you guys for the Halo series, perhaps some of the best gaming i've done.
Its gonna be interesting to see what happens now that the central pillar of XBOX has now been shifted.
Bungie is one of my favorite developers despite for a little bit of dislike I have for halo 3 but thats a different story. Game developers who usually make games solely for money aren't thinking about the gameplay or how well it would do. Games like that either flop or nearly flops.
If they did they wouldn't be as successful as they are. They develop games the same way as Valve, gameplay always comes first.
Doesn't make games for profit? That's the biggest load of BS I've ever heard.
All developers need account for profit in the design of their games in order to stay afloat. I think what they meant is that delivering a great game comes first. If not they would probably be doing movie licensed games.
Yeah i had a dislike for Halo3(only a little these days) but iv'e played just way too much of the campaign now to realise i was wrong. It is in fact the best game in the series - it's not as pure a feeling as Halo1 or does it indeed feel quite so epic but it does play in a much more fun way than previous games - most but not all missions More Halo please
And of course they're a business with money in mind but equally they have also a real passion for making great games for fans - it would be nice to think all devs are like this but the drive is mostly for money before passion
What company doesn't make games for profit? Bungie has been a bit behind this gen. Gameplay wise, Bungie is always top notch, but I grew up with Halo and each Halo always set technical bounds ,except Halo 3. Hoping ODST will prove me wrong, but unlikely. Well hm....can't have em all. Also, this sounds alot like a PR move on Bungie. Just saying
Maybe they should start making good games..
easy for them to say... probably in the top 5 richest developers that have ever existed. (at least they should be considering the sales). i'd like to hear them say that to a smaller, struggling developer... kind of rude to be honest, if you think about it. here's a developer that TRULY doesnt make games for profit: ArtDink. they are the company that made the PS3 diving game Aquanaut's Holiday. i'd say it takes balls and a true not-for-profit attitude to make a freaking diving game in this day and age, when the only thing that sells are shooters. i believe Bungie though :P apparently they can make games that people line up in masses to buy, im sure they are doing something right when it comes to game design and such. but still, i wouldnt say they are anywhere near a perfect example of a developer that doesnt make games purely for profit... (to me Halo seems just a bit too calculated, striving for mass appeal with a faceless hero who saves the world etc)
People think bungie has been given a free ride because of halo, but in reality they've been around for a long time, since 95. They were largely unknown until halo, and yet almost everything Bungie has done has been copied in other games. some of their many firsts. Online voicechat (marathon) dual wielding (marathon) Multiple players controling a single vehicle (halo) the first packaged level editor (marathon) ambient ai (marathon) creator of the realtime tactics genre of games (myth) along with popularizing many things like recharching health, fps on consoles, balanced melee/vehicle, matchmaking systems, video-recording etc. A lot more respect needs ot be given to bungie, they're one of the greatest developers out there.
sorry im not a fan of halo 3 ...
No people should jump off Bungie fanboyism. They have ZERO originaility, and a crap FPS made popular with MS money, when in reality its crap. Haze is perfectly as Halo, it plays the same, the only difference is story, colours and console. Look at scores. They should be the scores of Halo too. Marathon was not the 1st to introduce that stuff, nor did Halo. Ripping off and getting credit for others.
I too, want to admit that... I like to work and take orders from a selfish, greedy rich bossy old prick everyday for the pleasure of it! its not just to pay my bills or feed my family or anything silly like that! nope. I work because I have nothing better to do....( rolls eyes)
