Exclusives Analysis: Xbox 360

For 2009, Microsoft is playing coy, perhaps a bit more than usual. The company has confirmed very few exclusive Xbox 360 games for 2009, presumably holding tight for high-profile game events such as E3 or this week's GDC for big game reveals.

But keep in mind that the biggest Xbox 360-only game of 2008 was November's Gears of War 2, which was officially announced only months prior to release at February 2008's Game Developers Conference. Something more is cooking at Microsoft for 2009.

Microsoft does, they were new to the console market last gen, but have been steadily building a very solid foundation. Nobody would of predicted the Wii, but I think Microsoft has done all the things right with the XBOX brand, and it's now become the brand that hardcore gamers think of. In the United States, it's head and shoulders over the PS3, and in PAL regions it's growing and penetrating the market more and more everyday and getting close to ousting the Playstation brand there also.

Playstation, on the other hand, YIKES... They were at the top of the hill last gen, and this gen they've been flipped like a pancake. All they've done is surrender market share that once belonged to Playstation.

Jockamo3107d ago

...that Microsoft has been able to steal so much of the Playstation's fanbase, including myself. It really is a good system and I have no regrets in my purchase. It's a lot of fun and I'm hoping to see more good games on the horizon.

They really know how to market. The amount of defective consoles should have buried the system, but they have remarkably managed to divert attention away from that seemingly fatal flaw. I don't know how they did it, but that should have really been the main selling point for the PS3. And yet, people STILL buy it...

And to even have any presence at all in Japan...that's amazing. Let's face it. The beginning of the 360 in Japan was awful. Overstocked stores, zero established credibility, and no franchises.

They have done an amazing thing. Convinced the Japanese to buy American. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Major_Tom3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

Lol at posts above. They haven't convinced the Japanese of anything. 4 years and one million consoles is not a milestone, but hey this is N4G isn't it.

Also for the ignorance that PS3isaBUST is shouting. The PS3 and Xbox 360 sold nearly the same in 2008 both selling nearly 11 million consoles. This console war doesn't exist, it's in your head

xztence3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

You mean "Americans" still buy it.

Edit at below.
i didnt mean it like that, i meant "Most" 360's are bought by americans
considering thats the only place where its ranked higher consistently in charts each month.

II Necroplasm II3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

over 1 millon sold so far of an american console is not that bad really.

@xztence
yeah only americans buy 360's. sure.

Major_Tom3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

In 4 years? That's debatable. JRPG is released sales spike then fall dramatically. Xbox 360 has no recognition in Japan.

II Necroplasm II3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

but ps3 has only sold 3 million but Nintendo is doing the best there as always.

The PS brand has been around since the 90's with 3 consoles and the PSP... So ofcourse the PS3 has sold more than the 360 there lol.

Major_Tom3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

Three million in three years is alot different than one million in 4 years my kind sir. No one except Nintendo has penetrated the market.

xztence3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

Recent survey of the japanese says its because of the price.
they would love to buy it.
unlike the 360 which already has a low price and still that low userbase...

PoSTedUP3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

to the japaneese- 360 is like an American car; not too reliable when put up against the majority of the toyotas and hondas.

ps3= a reliable toyota. 360= a nice, but unreliable Chevrolet.

360 has alllll them RPG's and is mad cheap, but, is a Chevrolet....

thats the reason why it doesn't sell as well as the ps3, plus its American lol, Japanese know their electronics are better.

DelbertGrady3106d ago

Xbox 360 - America: 16.8 million / Japan 1 million

PS3 - America 8 million / Japan 3 million

Yeah...winning in Japan is what's most important.

Ah Edge. Giving their pro-Microsoft opinion once more, as if anyone actually cares about what they have to say when every game they review gets a 5/10.

The fact is that right now, we're in the year 2009 and the only company with AAA games is Sony. Microsoft released Ninja Blade, Race PRO, Star Ocean 4 and Halo Wars. All failed to get "AAA" reviews. All of a sudden it's sales that matter, now that 360 games are getting all the bad reviews. That's not how it was in 2007 though was it? Man how things change.

Edge doesn't have a crystal ball. Just biased opinions based on the past.

II Necroplasm II3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

Soda just put the arguement away with his post.

Ghost of sparta most gamers don't give a crap about review scores maybe you do it's about picking up the game and seeing what you think of it and if you enjoy it. So every PS3 game that got a score under 9 or 8 is bad??

Major_Tom3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

Why don't you tell that to Microsoft then if you think you're so constructive?

They're trying really hard to capture the market, but then again one guy from N4G named SodaPopinsky said it doesn't matter. They should just drop it.

/sigh, n4g.

II Necroplasm II3106d ago

We know why certain fanboys are upset about the 360 so give it a rest.

IdleLeeSiuLung3106d ago

Yeah, they are so biased they give a similar article about the PS3:

Major_Tom3106d ago

Haha, speak for yourself Necro. Your comment history is already questionable.

II Necroplasm II3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

Well im a gamer and I can not stand console bashing

what you going on about again? By your comment history I see... well I could not care less

@Major_Tom
Yes and I bought a 360 and I have 86 games for it and why would should I be defending it you ask???????? Seems like it is more on one fanboy side that is worried about the console war.

Major_Tom3106d ago

If you don't like console bashing than why are you on the mainpage, you either attack another console or defend it and as I see you're defending it. Most people stick to the forums because actual normal intelligent people usually congregate there.

Anyway, sales numbers don't matter, why? because they're numbers that have no relevance to your personal situation. You enjoy games on Xbox and I enjoy games on PS3 vice versa. Sales numbers have nothing to do with those games.

Why o why3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

yeah, i remember the many times you defended the ps3........oh wait and Soda, maybe you should tell MS Japan isnt important ONLY T'AMERICA like Major_Tom said. You sound like a balanced guy sometimes but you do type your fair share of nonsense dont ya:)

Capt CHAOS3106d ago

Just glad for a change it wasn't a sony fanboy hitting a 360 news article first..

Its a very reassuring article that Microsoft, Is indeed, still with us and still very much in the game. As was pointed out in the article, Microsoft normally doesn't start the year out as strong as its competitors, but as is evident by past years, they come through in the end.

Its nice to know that MS doesn't have its head in the clouds, and is determined to address the future of the console.
Saying that, however, I would have been more reassured with a new IP.

frayer3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

Haha. The same PlayStation fanbase that jumped ship will be the first to jump right back. RROD has scarred the Xbox brand name badly. People don't feel safe buying 360's but they keep buying em because the only sku that does sell is the $199.99 arcade. If it wasn't for such a disparity in prices, the 360 would be getting bent over well into 09.

Why does Microsoft wait so long to announce games? Because they don't have good 1st-party support and dwindling 3rd party support. They can't announce anything now because they'll have nothing left later. Sony can announce GOW III and Uncharted 2 now and still have another 10 games lined up.

Japan? Microsoft won't ever be big in Japan. You think regular PlayStation fanboys are bad? Japan as a whole doesn't like the Xbox. They call it the Halo box. The 360's biggest game, Halo 3 sold 100k there. JRPG's are flopping in America and Japan being on the Halo box. Star Ocean didn't even crack the top 20 on NPD.

Sarcasm3106d ago

If MS has something up their sleeve, they better show something.

"AAA" exclusive games like Ninja Blade and Race Pro just doesn't cut it.

Zeus Lee3106d ago

Forza 3,Alan Wake,(possibly)Crackdown 2,ODST,annnnnnnnnnd that's about it.

Psyched for Alan Wake and the new Gears SP DLC,everything else is a waste of time IMO.

ps921173106d ago

DLC, what the fuc#, and Alan Wake. Have a question, which do you think is going to look better, Heavy Rain or AW?

TwistedMetal3106d ago

that is all M$ releases is more gears and halo stuff and x360 owners eat it up everytime lol.
