Red Hat criticized for staking out patent claim on standard

Red Hat has filed an application for a patent that covers a fundamental aspect of the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol standard. The move has drawn criticism from other companies in the protocol working group. One company that was attempting to produce an open source implementation of the standard has responded by halting its AMPQ development efforts.
