Not surprised to see this. Ninja Gaiden Sigma sold very well on the PS3.

By "Sigma 2", they do mean Ninja Gaiden 2 right?

Holy crap!
This was the only game I was envious of 360 owners having exclusively. Now I get the new and improved version! :D

@ GoS - I would assume so? Doubt they're going to make a new NG, I'm guessing NG2 with graphical improvements with camera and bug fixes but I could be wrong.

It won't be Ninja Gaiden 2.
It won't be a port. Microsoft has the publishing rights to Ninja Gaiden 2, unlike the first Ninja Gaiden, and they sure as hell won't want to publish it on a competitor's console.

That said, Tecmo owns the IP, and I expect that Sigma 2 will be a new game that includes all of the new features in Ninja Gaiden 2 (Like the Scythe weapon, finishers, over-the-top gore, etc.) without the same story line/level layout of NG2. That and Sigma 2 might be an improvement if Tecmo decides to fix some of the issues of NG2.

Wow....
Ninja Gaiden Sigma ran buttery smooth 60fps on PlayStation 3. PS3 shows how Ninja Gaiden should be done. :)

TECMO ftw.

edit: hitting disagree means you want an apology from MS.

Can someone confirm NGS2 a PS3 EXCLUSIVE? Or is it multiplatform?

EDIT: If you read carefully on the HIGH quality scan, it mentions Xbox 360. Hmmm... interesting. Could it be that it really is Ninja Gaiden 2? But then again, you guys are claiming that Microsoft owns the rights to Ninja Gaiden 2. So im a bit skeptical about that.
Can someone translate?

lmao I no longer have a game I truly want on the 360. Maybe Fable 2 but it's more like "it looks really interesting". I would probably like it though but since I've never touched the series I have no real attachement to it. Ninja Gaiden on the other hand is one of my favorite action games (actually it's only behind God Of War) and it has by far the most FLUID combat gameplay of all the action games (which was really the only thing it was truly great at). Okay not by far, DMC3 actually was really smooth as well.

Of course this is just my personal taste.

you truly are a stella type of guy. I know u have a both consoles but you've stated classy and n4g is truly lacking in class. +1 Personally Im not as giving as you though;) I believe exclusives should stay exclusive. Its almost like we just need one 'grey' console now. Exclusives build and strengthen identity. Soon there will be no real need for both and that might hurt one more than the other (all in reference to the hd consoles)

Edit @kigmal I now look crazy because you changed your comment:(

Now other sources are confirming the title is coming to PS3...
The only question is NEW game or enhanced NG2? :)
RememberThe357  +   1953d ago
I think it depends on the publishing agreement.
It may be that MS has the rights to publish the game on their system. But the fact that TEMCO owns the IP means that they has full control over it.

It's like Mass Effect. If EA wanted to publish the game on the PS3 they could. Because they own the IP, they can do what they want with it.
Sarcasm  +   1953d ago
NG2 was fun, but it felt easier than NG1 and the story was just as lame as ever.

PS3 fans, don't be afraid to try this out but don't expect it to win any awards for story development lol

But if they get this game to run 720p again on the PS3 with extra features, I might have to give this another go.

And unless someone can clarify for us by reading in Japanese, it's safe to assume that THIS IS NOT a PS3 exclusive. It could re-release on Xbox360 to try and spark the game sales again.

When MiniMii said last year to expect Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2…the fanboys laughed and rated him down.

MiniMii is always correct in the end.

Saw this coming miles away too.

Technically, this is not Ninja Gaiden 2. Because the Gaiden series are bound by contract to the 360. However, Sigma is an upgraded Gaiden using built-from-the-scratch engine for the PS3 with added content. So Sigma is basically a new game. That’s how they went around the contract and that’s how they are going to go around it again this time around.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 = Ninja Gaiden 2 + added content + expansion on revamped PS3 engine.

So this is not just a PORT. As is evidenced by Sigma 1, which looks tons better than gaiden 1 and black.

"but, but, but...wait till E3"
I do think the fanboys are correct and we need to wait till E3. However, unlike the fanboys, I think E3 is going to be MASSIVE destruction …for the 360.
Ninja Gaiden today, Mass effect tomorrow.

360 game after 360 game is coming to the PS3. But PS3 Triple A exclusive stay PS3 exclusive.

The days of 3rd party multi platform are long gone. Props to Sony for seeing this coming.
Fanboys think E3 will “save” them. On the contrary. Developers have now witnessed the power of the Playstation brand. With a higher price tag and still closing in on the 360. Developers are switching to Playstation if they weren’t already.
Looking forward to play Kratos and Nathan later this year as well.

To the guy who asked about the presence of the words XBOX 360 in the article, the sentence in question starts "Last Year, Xbox 360... Ninja Gaiden 2..." and so on, so they're just referencing the fact that Ninja Gaiden 2 was on the 360 last year.

Fanboys are funny.

Wasn't NG2 the game that suppossedly sucked? And now you're partying all over this announcement. (Obviously it will be a NG2 port with more content)

This was bound to happen anyway, Itagaki and friends left TECMO leaving the company in uncertainty. The easiest way to get money without much effort is making Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3. I wouldn't be surprised if it looked better on PS3 since NG2 was quite a dissapointment from a visual standpoint considering how incredible NG1 was.

The team is great for making ports but to make a whole new game... that's another story.

Ninja Gaiden 2 was average. No question about it.
What we are celebrating about, is not the fact we are being blessed by its presence.

We are celebrating the fact the 360 is losing, yet again, one of its last parade horses.

And the fact that we are getting the superior version.

The 360 ship is sinking fast. And with each compartment being filled with water, champagne bottles are being popped.
ActionBastard  +   1953d ago
Hopefully the framerate and camera have been fixed. If not, I'll pass. Playing the 360 version was painful at times.

I always knew it
Yet I was insulted by Xbox fanboys, and they said "MICROSOFT TEH PUBLISHEER!!".

Just to clarify, some people are saying this will be a "re-make" which doesn't make sense. Others are saying it will be a port when the article clearly says it won't be a port. So what will it be? Well, Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a remake. Its engine used PS3's strengths. It's likely that they'll use the same assets, and that they won't "port" it because it won't be the same engine as NG2, it'll be Sigma's upgraded engine. Since that engine runs better on PS3 (higher resolutions, for example), I don't doubt it'll be the definitive version. Especially with the additional content that only fits on a BD disc.
na2ru1  +   1953d ago
[Aquanox] 40 year old fanboys are even funnier
PS3's NGS1 was better than the original (NG1) simply for many reasons - content and visuals.

Since this NGS2 is not going to be a direct port, it also leads us to believe it being better than the original NG2 (which kinda looked a*s as well).

You condict yourself btw. You claim it's only going to be a port. (360 version superior!?) but then play it safe and assume it's going to look better on PS3.

Awesome, I loved Ninja Gaiden Sigma. This Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is now one of my most anticipated titles this year, together with God of War 3, Uncharterd 2 and Heavy Rain.
Aquanox  +   1953d ago
Unfortunately, (and disappointingly), Itagaki left a lot of room for improvement with NG2. I expected a lot more but for some reason, it didn't arrive.

In terms of Gameplay, Ninja Gaiden 2 was way too similar to the first one, and this is why I didn't even beat the game even when I was a big fan of the first part. It just felt way too familiar to me, without any surprises in the road. Visually, it had its great moments, but for the most part, it wasn't the visual greatness the first one was on Xbox.

After 1 year, I believe Hayashi, with the experience his team acquired with Sigma, can improve on NG2... but don't expect the game to be a Triple A since it's only going to be a pimped out version of NG2, which was disappointing.

As for the "Xbox 360 ship sinking"... it seems that Sony boys are so eagerly awaiting for anything they can take as "good" news they don't think clearly. Microsoft's franchises keep selling way more than Sony's counterparts. Heck, KZ2 might not even sell past half the pace of MGS4 if previous news are to be believe nor the hardware has surpassed the 360's in a single month since September.

In this generation, it's very hard to keep a franchise exclusive, but for those that matter I believe MS is doing a great job securing them (even if temporarily) or stealing them (See Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed... etc) which by the way, released simultaneously, not a year after.

Don't be too surprised if you hear exclusivity news (secured or broken) about Bioshock or MGS4 at this E3. I would love to hear you guys saying anything about a ship sinking by then.

Tecmo just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an *******. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Ninja Gaiden Σ2, nor will they purchase any of Tecmo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Tecmo has alienated an entire market with this move.

Tecmo, publicly apologize and cancel Ninja Gaiden Σ2 for PS3 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

i differ, NG 2 was a big letdown for fans of NG 1 and NG Black. A total button masher, gore fest with no skill level needed = avarage.

I bought a 360 when i found out about this game, imagine how upset i was. Fortunately the 360 3 years warranty assures me 3 years minimum of game play and the games library is second to none. Pure fun (leaving out the crappy hardware).
Great games, pay for live but is good, pure hardcore gaming, no casual BS that affects true gamers.

Yeah, Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 had a much improved camera compared to Gaiden 1/Sigma. They are 'fixed' at times but plays how its supposed to. Btw, you have to beat the game to unlock a higher level, beat that level to unlock another...so on and so forth. Mentor difficulty is extremely hard, Master Ninja is nearly impossible to beat.

What? Wouldn't it be more logical to port Ninja Gaiden 2 whereas making a new one? For the developers, i mean. They would save money doing such way. But for players, it would be a good news to have a new Ninja Gaiden episode and not a port.

Or my eyes are losing in efficiency and it's just a port, in that case i would be a bit disappointed. Not that Ninja Gaiden 2 was bad, but i've already done it on 360, i wish i could see something new.

I think it is a port, they're just calling it Sigma so people know it's "enhanced" or it's the PS3 version.

Sigma will be like Black on XBox and maybe give them a chance to fix the problems NG2 had.

With Itagaki gone, it's very possible that the Ninja Gaiden series will be multiplatform from now on (or PS3 exclusive given Tecmo's recent love).

Microsoft also owned the publishing rights to Ninja Gaiden, but Sigma was basically a port.

Same with Vampire Rain.

I'm guessing whatever way Microsoft's publishing is set up, timed exclusivity and the name change is enough to get around that issue.

I can't wait for E3, I sense an explosion of fanboy destruction. lol
BTW, I thought Tecmo said something along the lines of not making anymore of Itagaki's franchises, that they wanted to start fresh and such, well I guess that idea went south, now they gotta go back to 1 of the 3 good franchises they have, all created by a man they f'd over royally.
PirateThom  +   1953d ago
Ninja Gaiden was around long before Itagaki, though.
- Ghost of Sparta -  +   1953d ago
Itagaki had nothing to do with Ninja Gaiden Sigma either. He kept bashing the game for some reason but it ended up being a much better game than Ninja Gaiden 2, even after all that bragging and douche baggery.
NMC2007  +   1953d ago
Itagaki made Ninja Gaiden what it is today, sure it started in the arcades and NES but it was having it's ass kicked by Sega's Shinobi, and when Ninja Gaiden was released on Xbox with Itagaki's vision of it, then it was truly born by Itagaki.

I mean why won't they go back to the other Ninja Gaiden? Why build it off of the canvas of Itagaki's work? Why not create one of their own?
Because they aren't competent enough, it pisses me off that they are doing this, not because it's Sigma on the PS3 but because Itagaki was screwed over big time and they have the nerve to revamp his work, that is bullshit.

I am a long time Itagaki fan, so sorry for being a little pissed off, I hope this new dude can do it justice.

By the way, Dead or Alive started on the Sega Saturn.

BTW, Ninja Gaiden 2 kills NGS in all areas, but of course.... that is my opinion, I make sure to note that unlike others.

I can respect your opinion...
However, it is my opinion, that Itagaki f'd himself by running his mouth and taking shots at other developers too often. About Ninja Gaiden being what it is today, I would say that it wasnt just Itagaki's vision, as much as it was Itagaki's, developers'/coders', QA dept's vision. It's just that Itagaki took all the credit for it, despite everyone else putting in the blood, sweat, and tears.... So really he had the loudest mouth, but no humility like other traditional Japanes developers, and it cost him dearly(humble pie is bitter dish, best served cold). I agree that on the older platforms, Sega's Shinobi was putting the whoop on Ninja Gaiden, but if you look at the reasons, I'm sure you'll find it justified. At a time when Sega was an accomplished console maker(albeit confused when making attatchments), and 2-D fighting was where it was at(with the exception of Ballz 3D and Virtua Fighter, Shinobi 3 rocked the 16-bit house with full resolution 16-bit sprites, an awesome medieval japanese/heavy metal soundtrack, and advanced foreground to background side scrolling, as well as individual segments that broke up the non-stop combat, such as the jet-board, horseback, and boss stages(the bosses were pretty epic). At that time in the 16-bit era, Tecmo was coming up short on the bus when it came to Ninja Gaiden. Though I used to enjoy NG for what it was in the old generation(pure hardcore time/quarter-muncher), I enjoyed last generation's play at bringing hardcore to the third dimension. So I am sure I will enjoy this round as well, and I for one am VERY excited to get a second Sigma.

That's one reason I don't play DOA 4 on my 360. The D pad F'ed with me.

On topic though, I already have NG2 for the 360, but I might have to check out Sigma on the PS3. That is if this is true.
young7yang  +   1953d ago

personally i think this is great news... i just sold my whole tecmo collection on the xb and 360 9 months ago when i gave up on my 3rd 360 and switched over to the dark side ps3..

i really miss doa series and ninja gaiden 2

sigma is cool but u can only play it so many times before it gets boring

i hope this sigma 2 news is true and that its really a ninja gaiden 2 make over..
STICKzophrenic  +   1953d ago
Played NGII on 360 and had a blast. I could foresee myself renting NGIIS for PS3 depending on reviews, user feedback and maybe a demo.
theEnemy  +   1953d ago
Maybe they will add some add-ons or bonuses for the PS3 version.

I still remember the month where NG2 was released, it was almost the same date where MGS4 was released. And fanboys are comparing the two exclusives going head to head in sales and ratings. Such a good laugh.

Oh well, at least we PS3 gamers are gonna enjoy this too.
macalatus  +   1953d ago
LOL...yeah!!

Hell, I still even remember the 360 fanboys saying that Ninja Gaiden II will slaughter MGS4 in terms of sales and reviews. Now that was a really good laugh!!
Sarcasm  +   1953d ago
Don't be surprised to see MGS4 release on the 360 though.

I know I know, I'm sick of hearing about the rumors and such.

But there's this weird estrange gut feeling that it's still a possibility.

I guess the magazine ads really struck me, where it says "Now exclusive for Playstation 3"

The "Now" part is what gets me.

Why not just say "PS3 exclusive" if yah know what i mean.
theEnemy  +   1953d ago
Don't worry, it won't
Hideo Kojima/Kojima Productions/Konami are fully satisfied with the reception and sales of MGS4, they won't bother porting it to the 360 or PC.

great news, ninja gaiden 2 was awesome, and this can only be better.
Sharingan_no_Kakashi  +   1953d ago
crap
If i'd known thered be a sequel i woulda bought teh first one. so then is sigma 2 gonna be ng2 just with some bonus stuff and better graphics or different story? And if Mr. T is gone from Tecmo i wondder how it'll turn out.
Arnon  +   1953d ago
Nope. They cant make it like Ninja Gaiden 2. My guess is that it will have the same combat as NG2, but with a different story, and levels.
DelbertGrady  +   1953d ago
So...now it's not a "flop" anymore? ;)
- Ghost of Sparta -  +   1953d ago
Apparently this isn't Ninja Gaiden 2. Microsoft published that one, which explains the outcome.
macalatus  +   1953d ago
With the possibility of improved controls, camera angles, graphics, and exclusive stuff then yes, the title will redeem itself...which in turn means more sales. ;)

improved:) you know how it goes maccy
BlaST_ProCesSiNG-  +   1953d ago
Well it's easy to see why people would think it's a flop. At one point in time, people were able to buy the game for $10 dollars at Best Buy.

Infinite Undiscovery flopped so hard it's price was slashed in half shortly after it's release.

So it's easy to see why some people might consider NG2 as a flop.

@why o why,

That was in my mind before I made that post. I simply put the word "possibility" as an insurance just in case someone decides to reply back saying "how did you know it's improved when you haven't heard any details yet, let alone seen the game?".

Deep down inside, it's going to be an improvement!

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thats rich. Loyalty means nothing anymore. I bet Itagaki is cringing right now.

I'm sure the only reason they changed the name was because Microsoft published Ninja Gaiden 2 so they had to make it Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.
- Ghost of Sparta -  +   1953d ago
Figured I'd be the first to post here.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Another lost exclusive for the Xtards.
- Ghost of Sparta -  +   1953d ago
- It will be an upgraded version of Ninja Gaiden 2 (not a direct port)
- Set to release in autumn 2009
- The magazine will be reporting new elements in coming issues
- Producer and director: Yosuke Hayashi (From Sigma)
- Development: Team Ninja
- New weapon - spiked hammer "Genma"
- New giant boss battles not in the 360 version
- New playable character - Female ninja Ayane

Definitive version confirmed. I bet this one will even be 1080p just like Sigma on the PS3, not 585p like the pathetic 360 version.

Ninja gaidne 2 was pretty bad it was basically crapier then the first
people say sigma is better then ninja gaiden 2. the updated sigma 2 will of course be the best verion as was the first sigma compared to the last ninja gaiden. oh well this is one less exclusive x360 owners have and thats not good seeing as there line up will be basically multiplat games. mass effect, gears, and fable is all they got left. I think fable is overated and in the future I think mass effect and gears will go multiplat as well. It doesnt matter when you get the games on your console what matters is if you can play them and if they are better then the originals.
macalatus  +   1953d ago
Um, you forgot an MS only game that features a certain character named Master Cheap or something like that. ;)

@lowcarb below,

Ah, chill...we never said anything about one console market. And it's not "MS has always delivered on games", it's "MS has always bought games using money from screwed people who bought Vista". LOL!!

It sounds to me as if you guys really just want one console on the market which is sad. Also MS has always delivered on games, so why all of the sudden do you think they would just stop bringing stuff to the table?

Tomonobu Itagaki  +   1953d ago
I didn't approve that decision. I only work for the most powerful console of each generation, making the best games in their genre. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is a disgrace to my creativity and i'm glad to see Famitsu spoiled Tecmo's announcement. I'm still waiting for my ¥145M.

Splinter Cell Double Agent?
Monster Madness?
Ninja Gaiden Sigma?

I am asking as I do not know the sales of these games.
macalatus  +   1953d ago

Not so sure about that.

NG:S sold around 500,000 copies worldwide I think based on Tecmo's announcement.

And NGII is nearing the 1 million mark.

I expect NG:S2 could do around at least 500k, which honestly isn't that bad.
