Editorial: The Software-Less Wii Is A Marvel

PSXExtreme Writes: I have always been a big supporter of the maxim: "great games sell consoles." Despite all the advancements we have made; despite all the bells and whistles available on current generation consoles, I used to believe that without the must-have software, the hardware simply wouldn't move off store shelves. Now, regarding the Wii, one of two things is happening: either it's the very first console to break the rules and still become a massive success, or - and I apologize in advance, Nintendo fans - it doesn't qualify as a video game console in this generation. Everyone always gets bent out of shape if you compare the software to Flash titles on your five-year-old PC, or if you say it only appeals to children and senior citizens. So I won't say that.

/*
it doesn't qualify as a video game console in this generation.
*/
yup, it doesnt qualify his views on games. in fact, wii is a video game console. is it a blu-ray player or a dvd video player? lol.

/*
Everyone always gets bent out of shape if you compare the software to Flash titles on your five-year-old PC, or if you say it only appeals to children and senior citizens. So I won't say that.
*/
he does have a certain level of understanding because he falls under the category of children or lets just say seniority. not enough dude. you spent too much time on your games, my friend.

/*
he Wii must be a marvel of the industry; it's the first piece of hardware in history that simply doesn't require decent software.
*/
lol'd at that absolute statement. to comprehend such matter, one has to realize a simple truth; which comes first? egg or chicken?

/*
The PS3, 360 and PC continue on their merry way, breaking down new boundaries and barriers and providing us with better and better experiences, ranging from MGS4 to Gears 2 to Crysis.
*/
all i have to say is.. this guy can only 'game'. thats all hes good at. =]]

/*
All I keep thinking is, "...this? THIS?! This is what pushed this console to what appears to be an insurmountable hardware sales lead?"
*/
what is "this" hes talking about?

/*
All it needs is the gimmick, which has single-handedly vaulted Nintendo into the stratosphere, and by no means do I fault them for this.
*/
he only accepts the word "gimmick" and whenever the truth is right in front of him, he denies it.(this is the best i cld infer, considering this part "and by no means do I fault them for this.")
Reason why people cannot accept the truth and persistently rejects it is because of "lack of intelligence". and the best rebut they come out with is usually to condemn it("gimmick"), which in turn helps these narrow-minded people to 'see' properly("oh! so it is a gimmick. thanks!").

/*
Nintendo recognized that they couldn't compete with Sony and Microsoft in terms of technical achievement, so they simply went another way.
*/
lol'd. erm what else can i say here?

/*
What happens when we compare the best of the best on any of those major platforms compared to the best on the Wii? What happens when we do this in the future?
*/
his method of comparison is rather doubtful.
wheres the best of the best on the wii? lol.

/*
I suppose it all comes down to this: the Wii is a wonder. As far as I can tell, you can just pump out any ol' title for that thing, and it doesn't even really matter what it is. Then, sixty trillion people will buy it so they can play Wii Sports for ten years. I don't want this to sound like I'm bashing on the system;
*/
I "wonder" how you can cook up sixty trillion people and then went on with Wii Sports(er??) and then ten years(LOL!? you mean if YOUR game is good, you will play for TEN YEARS??)

/*
I really do find this amazing, and you just have to give it up for Nintendo. Those guys and gals are all business geniuses to have pulled this off; plain and simple.
*/
never knew he cld comprehend "geniuses" though. "plain and simple".. hahahaz

oh well.. just leave the PSXExtremist alone. they have their games.

u guy get deep and chat alot of RUBBISH the wii is as much a console as the other two and if anything is more diverse in that it caters for all tastes i even like the way i can play a mario galaxy type game to a dead space game to games like monster hunter 3,and conduit,madworld which in my opinion is a perfect example that wii games offer up alot more then just generic shooters and fighters that are most of the time not all that with lots of racing games aswell these are the 3 types of games on ps3/360 great graphics on those games hell yes but sometimes i wonder if the graphics is all the devs think about when making 360/ps3 games GTA4 was overrated,RE5 not as good as RE4,people say tatsunoko smokes SF4,all of these sequels that are letting people down thats all im sayin the graphics will keep u going back for a while but that will soon phase out RE5 cant run and shoot its these things that spoil games graphics have to be impressive aswell but then games like CONDUIT have next gen graphics easy and next gen controls,next gen AI,wii speak,16 players online,solid 30 fps,for me this is next gen gaming not 360.360 has next gen graphics but that is where it ends for me have u seen the new tigerwoods 10 on wii go to ign the game looks next gen but with next gen controls

" . I don't want this to sound like I'm bashing on the system"

LoL kinda late for that don't you think.

edit:
*facepalm*
Yeah no bias coming from such website right =D.

" Nintendo recognized that they couldn't compete with Sony and Microsoft in terms of technical achievement, so they simply went another way."

...What?...From interviews the hardware designers were actually shocked when Iwata asked for a small,thin hardware box. They were excited to make a monster, but Iwata had a change of plan.
Nintendo has enough power to make a Ps3 spec based console, lets not forget all 3 get their CPU at one place. GPU's are from Nvidia or Ati.

So how could they not "compete" in anyway?

Although he is complimenting Nintendo for their achievements, he still misses the point its a marketing strategy. Not a case of : " THEY COULDN'T COMPETE"

Don't worry PSX Nintendo doesn't need advice on how to get to third place in the console race.

Oh jeeze, it's this kid again with another "this is a balanced perspective on the Wii even though my information is completely incorrect, my piece is nothing but biased bashing, and I'm writing for a fan site" article.

Seriously, if you just came out and wrote "I'm a PS3 fan and I don't like the Wii. Here's why." I would respect you. But instead you operate under false pretenses and offer back-handed compliments.

For that reason, even if this article were not atrociously poorly written and totally unresearched, it would still be low quality, because it is deceptive in intent and false in tone.
