GDC: Square Enix Gives Rare Technical Glimpse At Final Fantasy XII

A postmortem discussion on Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII was held early this afternoon, led by the game's programming supervisor Taku Murata. Also present was co-director and real-time graphics director Hiroshi Minagawa, along with lead realtime rendering programmer Yoshinori Tsuchida.

It should be noted that this was a postmortem on the technical aspects about the game, and not a reflection on the inner politics of Square Enix that eventually led to original game designer Yasumi Matsuno's departure.

Before getting to the main content of the talk, Murata announced that Final Fantasy XII has sold more than 5 million units worldwide, and that it has garnered many awards from various publications.

They tried to turn it into Call of Duty and it killed it off. They should reboot it and go back to it's roots. But they'd ruin it with online-only/multiplayer style bullshit so why bother? I have very fond memories of these games, but this series can stay dead as far as I'm concerned.

Was literally just thinking of this game the other week with the secret nut cracker mission and the shooting Bismarck dog lmao. Loved these games as a kid

I wish they’d remake warfighter

Strictly for the campaign

I have fond memories of playing the Medal of Honor Breakthrough MP Demo. It had two maps and custom servers. Living on campus, I had it downloaded on one of the PC Lab servers so I could access it on any computer at the university. Joined a clan and made friends that I still keep in touch with today.

Oh hell yeah! I feel like this was one hell of an underrated game, and I'm glad to see that a part 2 is coming.

This was my favorite Telltale game. I’m definitely going to play this. Hopefully it has less jank than the Telltale games had. I didn’t think it would happen but I’m happy it’s coming

right? it was sooo good, cant wait for part 2

Great, loved the first game and happy a sequel is coming but after such a lengthy development, are Telltale gonna be releasing it episodic with non specific time delays between episodes? If it is episodic, they need to have a full set of dates laid out for every episode so we know what we are getting & when like Resident Evil Revelations 2 did, buying episode 1 and not knowing when the rest will come is just unacceptable in 2024.

I always loved Telltale games. They were like those old choose your own adventures books.

It's not the ideal situation but Sony does offer them on ps plus. I to would just like a big ass compilation on doscto though

Insomniac roadmap leaked a while ago and they are making another, they’re doing the best they can and these games, especially the last two, are master pieces
