As women with long nails have already discovered, some new touchscreens, including the iPhone, only respond to direct fingertip contact. This means the screen won't respond if you're wearing gloves, and the novelty of pecking and pinching fast fades when you're forced either to duck into a warm Starbucks or expose digits to frigid air every time you want to send a text. (Apple has supposedly patented iPhone-friendly gloves, but even the least fashion-conscious may balk at having to buy winter accessories from a tech company.)"
