Halo Wars has finally arrived, but has Ensemble Studios accomplished what many thought would be impossible, successfully blending the Halo universe with the RTS genre on, of all things, a home console? GamerNode says they absolutely have.
Excellent. I'm glad to see a positive response to this game. Although I'm not a Halo fan at all, I definitely enjoyed my time with this demo, and feel that the streamlined RTS mechanics finally seem to make the genre viable on home consoles. Adding great music, visuals, and overall presentation only augments the game's other successes.
The music was probably my favorite thing about the demo, just listening the theme song during the start menu was epic. 1st day buy for me, it should top me off until Starcraft 2.
The cutscenes are very good Looks like a film very nice. Game has magic to it :)
this game got an accurate review!
This game stinks and sucks. Ive played it for a while on my local gameshop and boy are the graphics and gameplay disappointing! To put Halo wars in the same league as Starcraft or Age of Empires is an absolute big joke. A joke only shameless xbots dare to play. Because they are shameless and have sunken to rock bottom. The game stinks and is an absolute insult to RTS gamers worldwide. But lets these xbots think this game is good yo. Ensembles doesnt give a fling fk because they are no longer Ensembles.
I've been looking forward to this one for a long time, and I'm glad it seems to have turned out pretty good. Great review!
But im passing this game up....Just too many games to play right now.
Nice review score. Based on the demo I think the scores it has been getting overall are pretty much on the mark (mid to low 8s).
I got the game yesterday and ended up playing it for almost 6 hrs before going to bed.Easy, accessible and a lot of fun.
If your playing campaign then you just about finished it. I finished it on normal in about 7.5 hours. Its shorter then many shooters... The game is fun but no way would I give it a 9.
It's not a shooter. And normal? How about playing it on something that doesn't make it look like it's too hard for you.
Very impressed with it so far!
i'm gonna try it this week it seems like its gonna be fun. i just get the feeling that it took a lot of the strategy out of real time strategy for this one. but if thats what it takes to make an RTS work on console so be it then.
empire total war sh*ts diarrhea in this games mouth.
Come on, comparing any RTS to the Total War series is just unfair; they're too good, and three times the game as a typical fast-paced, resource-based RTS. Total War is a genre in itself.
Very good game, with solid controls.
Fantastic title, one of the best RTS titles I've played in my lifetime. I can't help thinking I'll be comparing StarCraft 2 to this when it comes out.
I totally agree. Simple but extremely fun.
Since I only play singleplayer (typically), 8 hours is a bit on the short side. However, since everyone's raving about how fun it is, I think I'll have to try it out.
"This is a fantastic looking title. I've seen a wealth of RTS titles in my lifetime, and not once have I been this excited to see a unit from the other Halo titles simply to see how wonderfully rendered it has become in Halo Wars. The units are detailed enough not to look clunky and lazily rendered when you zoom in, and they have a variety of contextual animations, from Scarabs stalking over the flaming wreckage of a tank, to Elites ducking and weaving to avoid incoming fire. Not to mention the gloriously dangerous Spartan units, who weild anything from Spartan Lasers to Miniguns, and have a tendency to jump two hundred feet up in the air to highjack a Banshee mid-flight." "The campaign itself is comprised of fifteen missions separated into four acts, and are separated from each other by a pre-rendered cutscene to flesh out the story. The story itself, dare I say it, is the best, most well-written storyline I've seen in the Halo universe outside of the official fiction titles. The characters are varied, and it's a joy to finally see how an Elite manages to make human noises with a face like half a spider. Everything is stunningly rendered and the color of the Halo universe does a lot to counter-balance the horrendous trend of brown and greys in the Xbox catalogue of late." "Once you're done with the campaign, taking from as little as eight to ten hours if you play hard and fast, you can explore multiplayer, though you're always welcome to do so prior to your story-based experience. Multiplayer is a lot of fun, especially in matches comprised of three-player teams against each other, with a map list comprised of Flood-, Covenant-, and Forerunner-based levels, not to mention a map whose title will make any Halo veteran smile: "Blood Gulch."" "I find more than one commander detracts from the immersion a little -- but the co-op function in Halo Wars is fantastically well set out." "They deserve a high score, not simply because they created a fantastic experience, but because they rewarded those who knew Ensemble had the expertise with the RTS genre to pull this off. A triumph." -Very informative review, they touched on just about everything that makes Halo Wars stand out and deserving of such a great score. I'm just glad it looks like finally I have a RTS I can really enjoy on my 360 and the fact that I get to experience more of the great Halo Universe at the same time is just too sweet. JOY
I cant wait 2 get This one
....its a great title. Really enjoying the experience as well. I am finding a lot of stuff out about the halo universe as well especially the spartans. Great game, haven't tried it online yet, to the people that have played online, is it good?! Im focusing on the campaign atm.
I'm really surprised this game seems to have turned out so well.
Yeah, when I first heard about it, I figured it was a cash-in title. Seems pretty legit, though.
