Safari dominates browser benchmarks

Proving itself a staggering 42 times faster at rendering JavaScript than IE 7, our benchmarks confirm Apple's Safari 4 browser, released in beta Tuesday, is the fastest browser on the planet. In fact, it beat Google's Chrome, Firefox 3, Opera 9.6 and even Mozilla's developmental Minefield browser.

I didn't know there was a beta out. I will have to try it out this weekend. :)

0ms? This benchmark has some discrepancies that need to be addressed. Otherwise this doesn't seem very legitimate.

Such as caching, if you performed the test with already cached data on safari and than did the rest the test with uncached data than it would fall in whomever's favor. Sorry but I'm calling bull on this.

It wasn't 0ms, it's just because the graph is in 3D to make it look all fancy. They gave the actual results on the page and it was closer to 1000ms for Safari.

Still, one thing to point out was that they used minefield to test Firefox, which is a little unfair as it's a nightly build and could have had anything wrong with it - debug code and such. They should have either tested it against an official beta or waited for FF 3.1b3 before doing this test. I know Mozilla uses a special kind of build process where they profile the browser and then rebuild it with optimisations in the most heavily used functions - they do this for final releases only and the same optimisations CANNOT be carried over between builds.

However, the differences between FF and Safari were barely negligible, especially on the Mac (where you'd expect Safari to have an advantage), which is good for everyone as it means a richer experience online.

well i moved to firefox from IE around a year ago and would never go back to IE. I think i'll give safari a go but for only slightly faster (in the grand scheme of things) speeds i'll prob end up sticking with firefox 3 just because it's a good browser and it's waht i'm used to

EDIT: Sorry wrong place.

I downloaded it last night and the sucker is quick. I do have a Mac though. Also very sharp looking.

The irony is Im still using Firefox right now, simply out of habit. Safari uses Webkit, which is the way to go really. But my beef with Safari is no extensions or toolbars. If it were just a bit more customizable...

But try it, it is very good

EDIT: Just to check again, am using it now, and it is damn quick. And much sharper looking. Again, Im on a Mac (Leopard).

We all want the fastest browsing experience - but I'm willing to trade a few fractions of a second for the add-ons FireFox provides.

In terms of making my browsing more productive (opposed to actual rendering speed per page, or Javascript performance), I think FireFox is the fastest by a long way.
