IGN: Welcome to Quake Live

For years, Quake III was the benchmark for gaming systems, even after video cards and processors became so powerful that it wasn't unusual for high-end PCs to get results of the game running with hundreds of frames per second. Still, there's something telling about the power of systems today when you can run Quake III in a tab of a Web browser... a Web browser that also has other tabs open, including a YouTube video or two. Welcome to Quake Live, id Software's brave new experiment in Web gaming, an attempt to introduce first-person shooters to people who have never played a game before in their lives. (PC, Quake Live)
