Are we rushing through this generation?

DCI from Gamesonsmash explains how gamers might be rushing through this generation.

"As I go online reading various news stories, articles and the comments we leave them, I notice that there are gamers who are moving at light speed. It is almost like some gamers are looking way too far into the future, instead of enjoying what is going on in the present."

But Sony/MS/Nintendo could really care less about bleeding edge hardcore gamers. They need to appeal to the general market and right now only the Wii is doing that.

So, more than likely, that means the PS4/Xbox 720 will be refinements of current gen. If not steps backwards.

Well it would be pretty stupid if ALL competitors would step in the same game as the Wii targetgroup.

Just because Nintendo is first mover in that market segment, they are in the 'evoked set' of minds of the customers. If all 3 step in you'll get a 'red ocean' where the sharks will bite each other again untill the ocean is red again. They only can go for the kill which is not the best solution.

I may hope that at least one of them (Sony and MS) keep sticking in the game for the hardcore gamer, the other go compete Nintendo in its new game. Because if one remains in the hardcore market you know for sure at least that target group has no alternative then your console which is a certain sell. Go compete to much with Nintendo and you might end up spending a lot of money and not getting enough marketshare there.

Even more wise would be to try to define another new target group... But its hard. Kids& older people turn to the Wii. Girls also a bit but not as much as the other groups. Trying to get the untapped potential of the target group girls could be a wise move. The DS for example did that a lot better. Maybe the pink PS4 and listen to the target group girls to hear what they really want from gaming? (not only the Wiifit for the fatties, but something totally different...)

Blue Ocean Strategy. Thats the way to go.

than most of us think. Recession, SONY and Microsoft will milk every ounce of their systems because they know people are not going to drop tons of money on a new system every three years. Besides both systems have not been really pushed to the limit yet!

This is the happiest I have been with a console since I can remember, I hope this gen does stay a while longer.

Wii should stay at where they are because it's obvious the suckers will buy it regardless. Maybe they add a new retarded Wii sit ups game for the fattys next year but the point is they can still sell it 4 years from now because those people don't care about video games and as long as it looks better than games on a cell phone they can keep going. Now Microsoft on the other hand is going for the PS3 crowd but it's starting to become clear that they can't match the PS3 going forward so it's not a shocker that Microsoft will release another system before everybody. I'm sure they will use some of Nintendo's tricks and Sony's tricks at the same time when they bring it. Sony has a lot invested in the PS3 and it's got a full HD future so as time passes and people get good HDTVs they might as well take full advantage of them with a PS3 and bluray. Even if Microsoft releases its next system at the end of next year and it includes bluray it's going to be rough because the PS3 will be pretty cheap by then. But in the end who really cares? Buy what you want. Root for the company you put your money behind and hit the green plus button on my posts as much as they let you :)
