Dual Review: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

Games Are Evil writes:

"This collection is a 16-bit love letter from SEGA to its fans.

We have to reiterate that this is a gaming buffet. You'll take little bites to experience the stuff you never played, and indulge on the old standbys, of which there are plenty. It is a perfectly produced, and still perfectly playable, reminder of our 16-bit heritage."

Awesome review! I like the dual review thing!

bgrundman3134d ago

This is a cool take on the review idea!

BRG90003134d ago

It's official! Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is as good or better than Killzone 2!

Reviews are so stupid. Can we get rid of numerical score systems altogether yet?

TheTwelve3134d ago

Yeah...I got this on the PSP like 2 years ago.

There are a TON of great games on there! I would have bought it for a handful of them.. but it's pretty ridiculous how many games you get for the price

killyourfm3134d ago

I don't even think we pointed this out, but the collection is only $30. So yes, SINCERELY worth it.

bgrundman3134d ago

I bought it and it was worth every penny!

CrAppleton3134d ago

Well sh!t.. I thought it was worth it when I thought the game was 60 bucks.. so then YES.. I will go buy this!

bgrundman3134d ago

You owe it to yourself to do it. You will not regret your purchase.

I picked it up on PS3 because I wanted to use a D-Pad that was worth a sh1t. How about you guys?

killyourfm3134d ago

Well, SEGA sent us the 360 version, so I wasn't going to complain. But I do mirror your thoughts about the PS3 pad..

bgrundman3134d ago

Any games that you feel were left out of this collection?

CrAppleton3134d ago

I'm happy with Vectorman!

bgrundman3134d ago

That was so much fun to play. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it!

Substance3134d ago

1) Revenge of Shinobi
2) Space Harrier 2
3) Mystic Defender

Oh yeah...and on the Arcade Space Harrier, they don't give us the option to switch the controls into reverse like you are controlling an airplane. Only flaw i saw on the disc. Otherwise, I love it.

CadDad3134d ago (Edited 3134d ago )

Sword of Vermillion (on the PSP one)
Gunstar Heroes
Dynamite Heady
Toe Jam and Earll
Road Rash
Eternal Champions

I could probably go on, but I definitely enjoy the collection as is. My son is experiencing these games for the first time (he's 5) and they enthrall him as much as the new ones do.

*EDIT* Cool! Got it a few days ago, haven't got to that one yet!

Add Earthworm Jim also! Love that one.

Edit... nevermind, I thought Dyanmite Headdy was on it. Boo...

Edit 2: According to the Sega Europe site (which is where I checked), Dyanmite Headdy is on it, must just be the European Version.

Easily, one of the best games I miss from my Genesis was "Master of Monsters"

Other titles like:
Tommy Lasorda Baseball
Might and Magic: Gates to Another World
Dune: The Battle for Arrakis
Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II
and NHLPA 94

I'm getting this at some point (sooner than later) just for the Sonic, Streets of Rage and Golden Axe collections. Really can't complain value wise.

EDIT: Two player...

bgrundman3134d ago

There are two player play in most of these games that I tried... what is the problem?

Cajun Chicken3134d ago

Nah, I didn't word that properly. Two player in those classics are a major selling point to me. I have the PSP MegaDrive Collection, but this has pretty much twice as many games, It'll be great to play these in a well presented package and legally on PS3 (I emulate a lot).
