Curiousonion: The world has slipped into a recession which means that many companies are finding themselves in a situation where they need to minimise costs and streamline themselves strategically and the gaming industry has been no exception. THQ - the publisher of Saint's Row - reported that it is to cut 600 jobs, 24% of their work force and they are not alone. Electronic Arts also reported a large short fall on holiday sales expectations and Midway recently filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
The result is a situation where there are going to be many talented game
makers without jobs but I don't see this as a reason for their creativity to stop. I think that we are going to see many new small developers sprouting up, formed by the individuals that now find themselves free and in a position to do so.
