A member of the GameTrailers Forums said that he has a list of the enhancements that Firmware 2.7 will make to the PS3.
I hope that this is true
I work for Sony. JK :) I hope it's true.
This is going to be amazing
This is similar to what others have said in the last few months seriously doubt in game web browser Usually Sony listens and obeys its customers
This is what i've been waiting for since I got my PS3! :D
Too good to be true. I hope more than anyone for this to be true, but wont get my hype up.
If this is true. But Im not going to get my hopes. i will love my psn 100X more.
That is fake. At the very best part of it is fake. There is no proof or credibility to the original poster who started the rumor. Also in game web browser is SOOOOOO doubtful. In game browser will only be possible if included by the developers sort of like the way PES and MGS4 do it. @stephanie. Sony can't just hold onto an SPU. They have upcoming games expected to use up all the SPU's an example would be Uncharted 2
Umm not rly... You can use 1 SPU of the PS3 to handle the web browser but it would mean alot of recoding and stuff. For example you can play a game on the PC and alt+tab and use your web browser, it's pretty much the same thing. *edit Only difference is that the PC is using up alot of excessive RAM when doing this. The PS3 will have to be taking a slightly more advanced route to make this possible.
this could be huge in game voice chatting system in game internet browser uh oh watch out XBOX!!!
- Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game. that sole update is amazing. - Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seemless in-game experience. this one would be awesome too too good, we'll have to wait to see if it's true.
I don't think this is true but hopefully Sony is listening!
sounds awesome. however: "- Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion." wouldn't leaving it grayed out and unselectable cause less confusion? Users will wonder why can I select it, but the setting doesn't stick?
- Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seemless in-game experience. - “Theme settings” options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB. - Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game. - Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game. - Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.
we'll see if it's true hope it is
I was expecting all this for 3.0. If it's true I'll be a very happy man when its available. Then again, I'm a very happy man anyway. KZ2 a mere week away!
One of the SPUs in the PS3 is ALWAYS reserved for the OS. Out of the 8 CELL SPUs, 1 is disabled (For manufacturing reasons, not all PS3's have a "working" 8th SPU, so they're all disabled) 1 is reserved for the host OS 6 left for the game I very much doubt it takes an entire SPU to display the XMB and play some music, so the web browser part sounds likely. I'd be more worried about it's performance, it can't exactly steal memory from the game and I believe 64Mb is reserved for the OS, it'd likely use this but that memory has ALWAYS been reserved, so how much is actually "Left" for the browser? Lots of disk caching, I presume, but if you're just looking up a guide or whatever, it'd be fine.
Not gonna hold my breath, but I do hope that this is a legit list. Some really good stuff on there.
And That's In-Game web browsing. The games use most of 360/Ps3's RAM. Web Browsing can be a RAM heavy task, unless they do it properly. On the other hand, 1 entire core of Cell's 8 is reserved for the Operating System so, it's not impossible, but, RAM maybe an issue.
This was posted on the PS3 official forums and it was deleted lol xD.... what could that mean..
Extremely fake. That would more likely be a 3.0 update if anything. The guy just listed everything (but cross-game chat/invite or whatever) everyone wants. I predict that the 2.8 update will give you a free beer every time you push the PS button.
is that right? I thought seven remained and only one was disabled for the OS. I never heard anything about an additional spu being disabled for manufacturing defects or something along those lines. Link please.
1 SPU is not used. That is very old news. http://www.psxextreme.com/p...
Looking at walk throughs could never have been easier. (I play my PS3 on my HD monitor is why)
sounds more like a wish list of every PS3 fan
All that would be nice. Really nice and the best part its FREE!!!!!!!!!
In game access to voice chat will ruin any tactical shooter experience. I hope this will not be possible. Think about the games first! Not about options! The party chat on XBL ruins all shooter games without respawn.
no one cares for the rules anymore, people let this stuff get approved... read the contributor rules about posting rumors from forums, CHECK THE SOURCES! forum posters are liars, even here on n4g
In game voice chat is gonna go a long way to shutting up critics of a FREE service. Can cross game invites be that far away? p.s. I think setting your XMB theme while in game is STUPID waste of coding time.
Sounds too good to be true, it's like they are giving every feature (pretty much) that we want in 2.7. I personally am going to take this rumour with a grain of salt.
In-game web browsing is HIGHLY unlikely. The problem stems from the fact that the Cell (Xenon as well) uses in-order processing rather than out-of-order. Modern processors in PCs use out-of-order processing, which allows for much faster context-switching and multi-tasking, because the processor does not stall while waiting for a required to resource to become available, it instead moves onto another available resource for another process and switches. In-order processors stall while waiting for a required resource for the current process. These resources most often reside in main memory, which causes a problem with in-order processing, as main memory runs much slower than the processors. This is what creates the stall. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Modern web applications often demand a good deal of memory as well. I just don't see it happening. But, I could be wrong, I've not worked with in-order processing before and they may have a plethora of methods to work around the limitation. But it would certainly be "stuttering" and slow in any implementation.
i SOOOOO hope its true, i have wanted in game web browser for a while (can check guides for games while playing LOL!! or do some stuff on the net while downloading game updates). I cant wait for this if its true :)
OOhhh PSN still doesn't have those features yet? Damn. PSN is so shoddy compared to LIVE, no wonder it's free. Apart from the web browser, LIVE custmers have had those features for a long time. I would hate to own a PS3 after using an xbox, maybe thats why so many people stick with it even with the RROD fiasco.
Now all we need is cross game invites and we will have what 360 owners have had since day 1. And I will no longer need to pay for LIVE if I want a decent online console experience!!!
Resident Evil 5 already does cross game invite it probably release this firmware by then
Nice, hopefully thats true, I really want in-game webbrowser. I'd like a link to the original source somewhere though.
Replied to the wrong person. Nothing to see here.
Seems too good to be true. I think it's fake.
Agree = To good to be true Disagree = Bot takin the p!ss
I agree as well, sounds great, but i don't think all that will happen in 2.7, but one can hope right?
Hey thanks for the clock now can u please move the battery thingy out from right on top of it
"Other slight UI tweaks and enhancements" is at the bottom of the list.
Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game. Yes, great news
That's not happening no way. That is a lot of features included in just one firmware update.
While I am hopeful, I am afraid I have to agree. I would expect to see that many features in a X.00 update, not a x.x0 update.
While I want this to be true, I have a feeling it's not, however, if these two things were added, I'd no longer have any major complaints. - Newly aquired trophies auto-sync in the background - Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.
and also a gamer card that is similar to ps store, you can see trophies much more orginised and that give you a very good feeling man psn ftw it's fun to say psN for the WIN :)
Ditto, man... Ditto. That's all the PS3 needs, in my opinion. Cross-game invites will be a plus, but then again, it doesn't really need that. It will be awesome if they add the option to plan and launch every game from Home, though. It will be an excellent excuse to leave the PS3 without cross-game invites.
Is there any chance Sony will be making external gamer cards? like ones you could use in web forums? that would be awesome!
I really hope it's true psn team, work hard,I respect you guys
Hope it's true. Keep making it sleeker and faster, Sony!
Hope its true.. Its funny because i just asked CydoniaX about the home avatar being used as a PSN icon a couple days ago and she said it was coming out soon.. THIS COULD BE TRUE
OMG, if this is true then I cannot wait! It seems like they're working very hard to try to make trophy compete with Achievements.
everything will become fast sleek, organized, easy to access and see all this features+home spaces with its game launching and party feel of home feature+deticated servers I think that will force ms to make xbl free, isn't it?
I dont think they can afford to make Xbox Live free, ever. DO you realize how much of their profit comes from XBL?
in the second quarter and this is too good to be true.
psn id topgunner12 ad me :)
take this with a grain of salt until Sony officially announce the features of firmware 2.7 Until next, I will be playing Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, and finishing up Dead Space. Edit: This sound more like a wish list more than anything.
PSN is better then 360 live ....... but now with 2.7 update even better more...
and 56K modem free internet is better than a T3 or cable... dirt is better than gold.. because is also free... only in the game industry where you have people that rely on their parents to buy games... "free" determines the quality of a service... stop moaning over $4/month... specially if you are not using the service. I am paying $4/month... I think the developers deserve the support. By the way... there is a great game I am playing... it's a browser based MMO game called TribalWars.Net. Don't worry about it... it's free for those of you that can't afford it... but you get extra stuff if you are willing to pay $4/month... I'm currently playing on world 30 and 33... come if you want to get owned!
"...that rely on their parents to buy games..." It's funny that you say that. Look at those little, whining squealing 11 year olds.
I love when people say $4 a month, but drop $50 at once. Or search the web for sold out $20 discounts on Live. Why not to the same attitude towards $60 games? That's right, it wouldn't make any sense. Also did I just see T3 and cable used in the same sentence together? DSL would've been a better choice, seeing how not that many corporations have T3s.
Man! That sounds to good to be true, but I hope its true.
i dont think it will ever be possible to access internet browser during a game
Actually in some games you are able to access the internet browser while in game. Metal Gear Online you are able too and I think Prince of Persia
also do this
i like really hope this is true ! But if they can get the browser to work normally while in-game, why the hell cant they make it run faster and without crashing or coming up with error messages saying "insufficient memory" etc. I guess we will find out soon. Reealllyy hope this list is true!!!
wow really cool. i had no idea. thanks.
I think this will definitely be better then xbox live if this is all true.
