Valkyrie Profile's sales didn't exactly set the world on fire when it hit North American shelves nearly ten years ago. The sequel didn't do all that well either. But thanks to its success in Japan and its cult status in the west, Lenneth Valkyrie and company now headline a bonafide franchise. But things have changed a bit since the debut of this curious take on norse mythology.
For one thing, developer Tri-Ace has translated the action-oriented combat system into a tactical RPG. For another, this time around you play the role of the bad guy -- a sympathetic bad guy to be sure, but you don't go making deals with the devil (or in this case, with Queen Hel) without lowering your benevolence quotient somewhat.
