More info about Killzone 2 DLC

Earlier PS3Focus was reporting that Guerrilla Games would release soon after the release of Killzone 2 some DLC for the game. And today there are some more details of the DLC that has been planned for Killzone 2.

If true, I'll be disappointed. I really hate the idea of dlc coming out soon after a game's release. Why not just put it in the game initially.. or wait a while and make it worth the money. Oh well, I guess that's just the direction the gaming industry is going in general...

I cant believe you guys would prefer the game was delayed in order to get the DLC on it which probably isn't finished yet? KZ went gold a month ago. And theres free and paid for DLC. I wont suffer a delay for some extra maps or a game mode.

guys you do know that implementing new maps etc. into the release candidate is a problem...

Therefore some developers are allready working on dlc when the game is in the final stages (last 4 months).
Or do you think they just pay all the modellers and level artists for nothing ?

I'd say it depends what type of DLC it is. If it's just maps and stuff like that it kinda sucks. And that goes for all games, looking at you Gears 2...

i like the thought of DLC if it's priced economically. Yes i agree that things should be included on the disc, but nothing ever works out the way it does, The very scope of the game is huge and there is alot going on so if it's just a new maps and weapons or some new game mode, i'm all for it, You wont complain if it's free so lets just wait to see. games like this have the frame work and the DNA for a DLC platform. it's a thing of the shooter genre so take it as it is or dont get it. You'll have the release version while others will have the definitive version of the game.

No one is forcing you to buy anything. Besides there will also be free dlc. They are trying to please the ones who like dlc and for the ones who don't, well, there is this thing call freedom of choice. If you don't like it don't buy it!

I for one would have paid $100 for this game so bring on the dlc. Also, and I know this is a big if, if they somehow manage to patch coop into this game then they can do no wrong!!!

I really do expect some great DLC coming from Guerrilla for K2. Things they can easily add:

1) A third badge ability for each class
2) New weapons
3) New maps
4) Vehicles on new maps(I'm not for this. It ruins the shooter part of first person shooters, but meh I'd just avoid these maps)
5)New game types
6)New classes
7)Higher ranks to ascend to with various rewards

That's 7 things I could think of in DLC that are all just as likely as the rest to appear in K2. :)

I've had 3 HDD brake on me last year and i lost a whole bunch of stuff, including all the saves on my PS3 so i don't trust them anymore. So i don't buy games off the store nor do i buy DLC because im paranoid im going to lose it all. But even if its free i'd like it so much more if it was just on the disc. I really want Wipeout HD but because there is no Blu-Ray version ill never get it

You can re-download all the stuff you own though. Seriously, get Wipeout HD, it's well worth it. If your HDD breaks again, get a new one, and re-download the game. Might be a bit of a pain but just make sure the HDDs you're buying are not cheap shoddy ones that are likely to break ;)

You can always back up your save data as well onto a portable hard drive or memory stick.

Well the HDD in the ps3 was the stardard one, i had a £200 external HDD brake and the one in my 2 year old computer corrupted. But that whole you get so many downloads for your money, that just reminds me of that 3 installs only crap you get with PC games but there ain't no way out of it. I did really want the DLC for LBP but then when i was playing LBP Online it crashed at the end of a level and deleted everything i had so i gave up

You don't get "so many downloads", you can download as many times as you want on the 5 activated PS3s, I believe.

I did read that, and any free dlc is appreciated. However, to me it all depends on what the paid and free dlc is... i have no quarrel paying for new maps if they're good. But I feel nickle and dimed if they charge for weapons or costumes. Again, this is just my humble opinion.

Why I was saying this:

1. PS3 fantards come in at 360 DLC articles saying that it got DLC because it wouldn't fit on the DL-DVD. Thus knowing BluRay has the space for it in their logic it should be shipped on disc. Especially because its released SO SOON after the game releases

2. PS3 fantards say that DLC is made to get Microsoft more money and Sony is in it just for... Well what exactly... ALSO THE MONEY OFCOURSE

Why not charge for some extra costumes, or an extra map? Having 8 maps instead of 10 on the disk will hardly impact reviews or sales. But release 2 maps as DLC and maybe 1/4 of the people with the game will buy it! That's pure profit right there.

LBP has been the biggest rip-off this gen, with some other games coming in close behind. Now, I'd say the MGS4 pack was well worth it for LBP, but paying £2 for a costume? It's getting so ridiculous. But they'll keep doing it, because a certain percentage of people will always buy the extra content.

The most annoying thing about it is when there is DLC for an online game. Since not everybody is going to want to buy it, it divides the userbase and then you always have very few servers playing the new maps/expansions. Meaning that after a few months, you feel like you've wasted your money.

So Killzone 2 should never be released because the devs will always be adding new content to the game. Instead of letting people play the game and download the extra content lets just delay the game...

I am not trying to attack you so don't take it that way.

However if you have been paying attention to Killzone 2 you would of known that the developers said that each level in the game is at over 2 Gigs. The short ass demo is already at 1.2 gig. Since there are 10 levels, 8 maps, bots support and over 30 minutes of beautiful cutscenes and uncompressed 7.1 pcm sound (which takes up enormous amounts of space)then it isn't a stretch to assume that the disc is fill with content at launch. I am not saying there isn't any room just maybe.

Also this is a business so they are trying to make money on what is obviously a costly development process for this game an engine. What is wrong with that. Everyone else does it. Conversely they are also trying to support the community by providing ongoing support for their game. Those who want the dlc will be pleased and those who don't can just not buy it. The free stuff is just a bonus.

I just hope they patch coop so me and some friends can go to war together.

@Thor Bluray may not be needed at the moment or if you are developing a multiplay game withing a year or two that don't push the consoles. However if you want to make a bigger game and would like to push the limits of what a game can be you will need as much space as the possible. Heck just the uncompressed sound on these bluray discs takes up enormous amounts of space.

Imagine if you were a developer and you have a vision for a great game and you had two media to choose from. One is 50 to 100 gb and the other 8 gb, wouldn't you rather not be wasting time on compression techniques (which downgrades not only quality but takes up cpu bandwith to uncompress) and just work on the game? If you were an artist wouldn't you rather have a large canvas than a limited small canvas?

The time between a game being finished and being released is long enough to make new stuff, for it to be on the disc they would've had to delay the release.

While Blu-ray discs do store much more...even THEY have a limit. Each level in Killzone 2 is around 2 GB's, according to Guerrilla.

Imagine Killzone 2 on DVD's!!!

Look at Final Fantasy VII. The CD was the next big thing, with much more space than cartridges. However, FFVII took up 3 CD's on the PS and 4 CD-Roms on the PC.

I was thinking the same thing. Sometimes as a PS3 owner I can get a little upset at the other owners out there in the world. Some of you guys are never satisfied and are always complaining about something. People complain about dlc then complain about not getting dlc because it's exclusive to 360. People complained about not getting a collectors edition(which most aren't worth the extra $$) and would have paid an extra $20 or $30 for the game yet you can sit here and get mad for having to pay for some map packs that will probably cost 10 bucks. Give me a break. How about we show our appreciation to Sony and GG for all the blood and sweat it took to create this game. I for one cannot wait until the 27th drops and I can put this into my PS3. For those of you that don't want to drop the extra cash on the game...well you don't have to buy it because YOU have a choice. It took 4 and I repeat 4 YEARS to make the best looking console game to date and some of you still have to complain. Do you realize how hard it is to make a game.....Ahhhh....nevermind... .it's pointless. Buy the game and support GG and Sony for making this masterpiece. Peace....

People that act like they could have just put the content on the disc, simply know nothing about how these things work.

Development of any content takes time (obviously). Now, since that is the case it would have caused the game to be delayed and it's possible that the content wouldn't have even fit on the disc.

Besides, where does it end? You can always say there should have been more content and then the game would never come out. The developers at some point have to decide how much content is going to be on the game disc in order for them to reach their ship date. The question is, is what's on the disc worth your money? And the answer for me is a resounding 'yes'. So why complain? If you want the extra content, buy it. If you don't want it, well... nobody is forcing you to buy it.

i think the problem comes when the dev took the extra time to make DLC BEFORE the title launches. I mean, look at NFS: Pro Street. Most of the cars you get in "dlc" are already on the disk. In fact, if you ever buy "DLC" and its less than say, 10mb its probably not really DLC to begin with, just an unlock key for data already on the disk. THATS what bothers people and leaves a bad taste. I personally feel that patches were the worst thing to ever happen to console gaming, and now DLC is getting out of hand. The real abusers seem to be ea though, im glad they got called out for it with bad company, that coulda been really ugly.

I am excited to see the KZ1 maps, I love the maps from the first, and if they were redone to the extend of KZ2 which i am assuming they will do, it will be amazing. The swamp/jungle and the train station are my fav.

DLC is great, and if the rumor is true about downloadable retro-maps from Killzone 1, then this would be simply amazing. I would pay handsomely for some of those classic maps like 'The Beach' and 'The Jungle'. For those who never got into Killzone 1 online - you don't know what you missed out on. It was actually a very very good online experience - no matter what anyone says. Killzone online is simply the best. Bring on the DLC maps plz - I will pay handsomely day one!

I respect a company that suports their product 100%. The only people that have room to complain is the people with caps on their downloads.
