First GTA4 Screenshot?

Probably not, but this screenshot made an appearance on the net today. Leaked screens are very rare, but take a look and decide for yourself. I have attached a larger version in the image section below. Now if this is old I apologize as I have never seen it before myself.

Update: Rockstar says that the screenshot, is a hoax.

I really can't tell. When it comes to the information bar, It seems to look like GTA. But unless the next GTA is going to have a female as the main character and by the looks of the vehicles, be in the 50's. I see this as being bogus.

at least the 70's there is a 77 Nova sitting behind the 57 Bel Air.

and the information bar is huge if it is real i hope they change that. I hate HUDs all up in my view of the game. Go like FN:r3 no HUD. The 360 still has rumble so use a system like on Call Of Cthulluh: Dark Corners of the earth where the rumble is a heart beat and it speeds up as you get injured and the screen reds and blacks out. That game was cool for the way it did stuff without a HUD. It had other problems but that was cool and New-gen to me is no huds... think of new innovative ways to show us our status.

It's a photo of a TV screen, so no wonder it doesn't look amazing.

The hud is very interesting. Look at how in the bottom left hand corner the map is now spherical and 3D. Also, the top left hand corner shows code running as if this is just in production. Could possibly be real I think. Anyone judging the graphics is retarded because like the poster before me mentioned, its a low quality picture of someones TV screen.

Its not that hard to photoshop that stuff if you are good. And those codes are DEBUG code. Yes the map is 3D.. I still think the HUD on the right is way to big and clutters the view of the game world.

Cant see this as being real. I'm really looking forward to seeing the first screnns of GTA4 considering Rockstar are using RAGE, and this doesn't look anything near RAGE to me. I dont thing Rockstar would use a female as lead character either, well I wouldn't anyway. I think the mace is going a bit far too. Plus, a 3d radar???? Its a good idea but I just think that could lead to a lot of problems. If it aint broke, dont fix it. I call bs on this anyway.

I am pretty sure it is BS also but I disagree with your thoughts about a female character. We will see what they do. It would be a good switch for them to cool down all the naysayers that rockstar is a much of sexist pigs (everyone from conservatives to prostitutes has said this) and stick their middle finger up at everyone saying it also. The mace, whos to say she is not out doing a contract killing or pulled it off a museum wall or off some rich guys den or library wall. It is possible to work many of the things into it. And the RAGE engine as used in Table Tennis was not as outstanding of graphics as like GRAW or what i am seeing in the new Unreal engine. BUT, if this is real then it is very early and probibly a first build without alot of tweeking yet to run around and see how it feels and how basics work. And why is a 3d map a bad thing? maybe you will have to go into buildings and to the top level to find someone or something. There are lots and lots of possibilities.

I just cant see them being able to do as much with a female character. And, yeah, you just cant tell what Rockstar would do so it is possible I guess. I know they've had some crazy weapons in GTA, the dildo for example lol, but I think a mace is just a bit over the top, but as you said again it couldv'e been picked up anywhere, true, but I just dont beleive it. The 3d radar, good concept but flawed in some ways. Obviously the 3d models of surrounding buildings would constantly get in the way. I know they could make them transparent but it would still be a head f#ck. Plus, nav points on higher or lower elevation to your character could be a problem, as could depth perception.

Another thing I just noticed is the player marker is on the edge of the radar (presuming its the white dot as in all the other GTA's). Shouldn't that be in the center of the radar???? Could be annoying trying to make out where your character is with the clutter of buildings etc. surrounding you. Anyway, just a thought.

Im really growing tired of people pretending RAGE means GTA will look like Table Tennis, RAGE is game engine, that dosnt mean your graphics are going to be amazing simply becuase you are using it. The open source engine cysrstal space looks like garbage, unless alot it added, then it can look like a next gen game.

actually the ability of the engine does affect the graphics. Why do you think they issue new versions of the Unreal Engine? I get what you are saying it does largely have to do with the artists and the graphic look they are trying to get for the game. I never said RP:TT had crap graphics, they are cool. and it was mostly a test for the RAGE engine anyways that they used and developed in the engine to get under the hood of it on a small scale before they put the GTA universe in it. I know that you could use RAGE to make GTA4, a RTS, a platform gamer, a sports game a arcade game, or any number of games. The programmers and modelers are the major force for what the game looks like though as you say.
