Rockstar dev boss Jeronimo Barrera has confirmed that GTA IV DLC The Lost and Damned - releasing tomorrow - is at the limit of Live's file-size restriction, and should be considered a full game.
I have such a bad taste in my mouth because of gta4 that this dlc means nothing to me, but for those who liked the game i hope you enjoy the dlc.
im not bothered bout this
Cant wait. First real gaming purchase of 2009 for me, this should be good :D
The Lost and Damned comes out on Wednesday (b4 Killzone 2). Way to ruin the fun parade. If you don't care about the DLC, go find some "PS3/Killzone 2 is the bestest article." Me? I'm getting the Lost of the Damned on Wednesday and Killzone 2 the week after. Jealous much?
oh dear how sad. My first real purchase will be lost and the damned followed by Killzone 2. I feel sorry for you..
I was very excited about GTAIV when it was first released...I did the first few missions and quickly lost interest. It was great looking at the first next-gen GTA game, I'm glad i paid for it, cause randomly i may hop on one night after a stressful day and murder some people... I didnt even unlock the second Borough...thats how little i played it -_- Like badkolo said though, ENJOY!
I guess you thought that sounded cool or something, but all you told us was you like to waste money! If you didn't like GTA 4 that much, why didn't you sell it and get at least half of your money back? At least you could have had some extra cash to buy something you would have liked more! I want to buy the DLC, but I can't help but wonder if they will release a box after the other DLC is released with everything in it... kind of like the Burnout Paradise one.
@AAA I believe this is only the first of two big DLCs. So I can see that releasing an ultimate version of GTA:IV with episode 1 and 2 but not until 2 is released?
what's the file size limit ?
Around 2 gigs I think. Not entirely sure though. And no, its not 1 gig considering a lot of game demos go up to 1+ gigs.
come in at over 5 gig
thanx guys <3 + bubbles
I know there are game downloads of 3 to 4 gigs. Halo for instance.
Same for me after finishing the game I lost interest and didn't come back to it like GTA SA they really exchanged content for graphics this time around. But yeh enjoy the DLC.
Feel sorry for Arcade owners. Then again GTAIV sucked so this will also probably.
that the point of arcade consoles, they aren't meant for heavy media use or expansion downloads they are for arcade games and retail games if somebody bought an arcade and they still dont ahve a hard drive they arent interested in downloading anything
Micro had a deal, or plan, to give Arcade owners, if they could prove it, a 20GB hard drive for just $20. So, if an Arcade owner doesn't have a HDD yet, they prolly are not interested.
Ok then, if its a full game, i wish it will be between 40 - 50$ like most of the "full game" otherwise its only a dlc with maybe 10hours.
most $60 games these days don't reach 10 hours.... mirrors edge for instance
I am sorry...but are you asking for the game to be more expensive...so that it feels like a "full game" to you?
So.. it's not a "real game" if it doesn't cost you $59.95? Sorry, but this game clocks in more gameplay time than Metal Gear Solid 4. 20 hours of straight gameplay. Not to mention new items, cars, multiplayer, leaderboards, etc. (I believe...) All for $19.95
A few extra missions counts as a full game now? Lol nice job with the 50 million payooff Microsoft, Next time give that money to charity.
I guess reading isn't a part of your life, huh?
It's like they are trying to convince everyone that they are buying a full retail game at half price. Do they even know what the hell DLC means?
its marketing mate, sure rockstar will try to convince the customers that the DLC is worth buying. For me personaly i think its kinda silly, Its a great DLC with loads of content but its no new game. Its the same city just with a new sidestory
a point to make is this expansion probably has more i it than a lot of retail games lately, they know it is DLC but they are making a point and they are doing DLC the right way instead of releasing new clothes, a new vehicle paint job, selling character levels or a new batch of missions that take 45 minutes to finish they are making a point, and if all goes well setting a new precedent for downloadables i'm hoping it turns out well for MS and rockstar because i want to see real effort put into expanding retail games from now on instead of getting ripped off on DLC all the time
into sports games...would you be upset if they released roster changes and updates for around $20?
Comparing what is potentially as long as most retail games to a roster update is beyond ridiculous.
If you are responding to me...I think you completely missed my point.
no i think he got it, your comparison is outlandish
that people pay the full price for Madden each year when it is usually roster changes and a couple other updates....but have a problem paying $20 for "DLC" that rivals what some sports titles charge $59 for each year. Yeah...its obvious that my comment went over your head too. Nothing outlandish about comparing the inconsistencies that people have.
Madden, as much as I can't stand sports and sports games, offer much more to a fan than roster updates. They add new elements to gameplay and improve the previous years installment...At least they try to. It's a bit more than a roster update each year.
but clearly if you ask a lot of people...they will tell you there are not necessarily enough improvements to really warrant the full price tag each year....take for instance the gimped version the 360 got with Maddens first outing. A lot of people I know have the policy of purchasing Madden every other year.
And as it's their money, they're entitled to whatever policy they feel comfortable with...I won't by single player games new unless it's an RPG or a GTA VI type of game where I know I'll get more than my money's worth. Instead I'll buy used so I can return it. But $20 for a full game is more than worth it.
if you didnt like gta 4 then you are not gonna like it now.
LOL they are just saying that to make Xbox 360 owners buy the DLC.
The online part alone makes this worthwhile. Can't wait to try out the new modes...and vehicles...and weapons...and mechanics. Nice!
Only on Xbox360. Not Ps3, cause Ps3 SUCKS. Xbox360.
you might actually be the only person who cares about the DLC. you know what, i take that back. you probably don't either. it's just your inner auto xbot talking. PS3 has actual GAMES coming out in 2009, not DLC or a lame RTS.
Hmm.. really? Pretty sure that there's only 3 confirmed PS3 exclusives coming out in 2009. Killzone 2 InFamous Uncharted 2 Everything else does not have a release date.
I would of bought this if: 1) I didn't buy the PS3 version of GTA4 instead 2) Street fighter 4 and killzone 2 were coming out so close to it I'll probably buy the DLC once i find a cheap copy of GTA4 for 360, i actually really enjoyed GTA4, it was just boring after you completed the actual game.
Street Fighter vI & Lost & Damn?! This week is looking good.
Rockstar seems to have deluded themselves into thinking they created a full game just because they included a new story in their DLC (that can't be played concurrently with the original) along with the extra guns and vehicles. But calling it a full game just because it has a new story and has to be booted up separately even though it uses the same engine as GTA4 is like calling pretty much every expansion pack ever released a sequel. By that logic, games like Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne would also be full sequels, cuz they also had new storylines and are loaded up separately from the original. Don't get me wrong, The Lost and the Damned looks great, I totally want it, but Rockstar shouldn't try to hype it up that much just cuz they were the first developer in a while to include more than a few small goodies in their DLC.
We've got Lost and the Damned for Xboxers, Killzone 2 for PS3ers, and Street Figther IV for both of us in February. I smell win-win.
And Halo Wars.
A part of me is excited, and a part of me is worried. I hope that the DLC isn't too large in file size, because eventually a lot of developers will release huge awesome DLC's, and my little 20GB HDD will be full before I know it.
CAN NOT WAIT. My Game of the Year just got more game...Awesome.
I never understood the art behind senseless violence. Of course, I like my fair share of violent content, but Rockstar is making a killing off a game series that does nothing but promotes ridiculous violence, prostitution, racism, sexism, all compiled by a dumb-ass script. The developer is making a killing off insulting gamer's intellegence. Really...the SAME game? Over and over, only changing the location? (As Neo would say "Whoa...") With all those sweet games that came out last year, THIS is game of the year? I'm sure rich people (Or those of you lucky enough to NEVER experience real struggles, violence, or hard times) think GTA is cool. Guess what, African, Hispanic, and Latino-Americans neither act or talk the way that Rockstar games is sugesting. have suggested. I'm sure all the orgasmic GTA fans will respond to my thoughts, with arguments about how GTA is genre defining, and that I should shut up. SAVE IT NOOBS!!!! I could care less about the DLC for this game. I mean, is there someone that gamers forgot to kill in the other 10 or so hours of GTA 4? Yea, I'm a hater,...never liked GTA. Just felt like pissing off the GTA lovers on here. Actually, I really don't care what people like to play, bored at work and figured that I would "stir the pot" a bit. I do know that somebody needs to stick a fork in Rockstar games, because their done. CAN THESE GUYS MAKE SOMETHING OTHER THAN GTA OR MIDNIGHT RACING GAMES? Surely, we won't discuss that epic table tennis game. This game was actually WORSE than critically acclaimed Viva Pinatia series. (LOL)
Oh spare me. The rich? Are you serious? First of all, if you say something as inane as that, no one should take you seriously. But I'll bite. You say the game has a terrible script? Did you play it? Please don't tell me you have because that would make you either a liar, or not strong enough to stick to your own convictions. So trusting that you not being a fan and thinking it's a vile game, I'll assume you haven't which makes your statement nothing more than flat-out ignorant. The game was one of the best stories in games today. Mind you, a lot of people couldn't get into the gameplay but as someone who did and was enthralled from start to finish, I can say that it not only has the best GTA story but one that would make a compelling crime film that I'm sure would be a huge hit as well as garner awards. Not everyone will agree with everyone's choices for Game of the Year but everyone can back up why they thought their particular choice was what it was. It's not for you to "understand" it's for you to accept. And as for you trying to "stir the pot"? I find it ironic that you call a game out for what you say has no value yet you can't even contribute something to a forum without a faux- subversive motive. Yeah, you're a winner.
I think tonywood is Jack Thompson in disguise.
So then now that's 2 exclusive games Rockstar has made for the 360 and none for the PS3. PS3 owners should be offended and boycot all 2K/Rockstar products starting today.
KZ2 will have DLC and the PS3 fans (including me) and the fanboys are like "hell yeah thats what the PS3 is all about!!!! FTW!!!" but at the same time are opposed to DLC on another platform?? double standards much??
did MS tell him to say that so the DLC can be classed as a real disc game to put on there 09 non-game lineup.
