PlayStation 2: thriving or failing?

With all the brouhaha over the new generation of game systems, what's to become of the 100-million-unit-selling lord of the last generation -the PlayStation 2? Well, it depends on who you ask.

On the one side is this Reuters report, which is positively bubbly about the system's enduring sales and impact in light of more powerful competitors. Indeed, the $130 system outsold the Xbox 360 and PS3 in January, and had two of the top ten selling games that month.

The story is too old to be commented.

But with the switch to software BC on the PS3(which was all about marketing or it was to save money on the per/PS3 costs and ended up being a win-win) making the PS2 keep most of its titles to itself again and the next price drops its going to be around for even longer.

Ehh I think it will soon die faster then you think.. I dont think a lot of people will make games for it anymore.. well not as much that is... We will see Sony try to say the ps3 is better in every way possible to the ps2 and you should upgrade... Funny thing is most people will say ok and buy it. The ps2 will die soon and then what the psp???

It's being forced to work passed it's retirement age in order to support it's immature offspring. Sure it's still a hard worker, but those old specs. can only last so long before it gives out.
