I don't think that quote is necessarily wrong, but it is misleading. I define "killer app" as a game that causes a large number of systems being sold. As great as MGS4 and LGB are, they didn't move quite enough systems by themselves to really be defined as a "killer app".
A "killer app", I think, is something like Halo 1 or Halo 2, where potentially millions of customers buy a game JUST for that system. KZ2 has the potential to be that, certainly, but we won't really know until we see PS3 sales numbers for February and March.

It single handedly shifted Ps3 way above the 360 sales by a lot And it got near Wii status is Japan. There was no price drop on any skus for ps3.
Halo 3 on the other hand, sold a lot but 360 demand remained the same throughout it's launch.
LBP and R2, ok they weren't the quite system seller, but MGS4 WAS!

It doubled sales for the month it came out from 200k to 400k, but by the second half of the year, the 360 was outselling it again.
I'm talking about something that potentially turns the tide of a console war forever - not for a couple of months.
...looks like there are too many people trying to look at it.
But based on the responses so far, it seems like Sony will successfully continue to blanket 2009 with great games and alluring hype.
Sony doesn't need any gimmicks...just bury us with games! That's the only way to truly stand above the rest.

God of War doesn't disappoint in the bore feast either, I couldn't finish either versions, they just do the same thing over and over.
GOW3 does look visually good and I do prefer it over games like Ninja Gaiden, but I really doubt I will get this game, might rent it for a weekend though.
Killer app does not mean if it moved systems.

The earlier trailers/ screens did this game no justice whatsoever.
I love how the game has a soft "water-color" feel to it. That fiery man-beast he's fighting looks exceptionally rendered. Same with the up close shot of Kratos (picture #2).
Stunning game. The story and soundtrack (I've always liked the music for this series, wonderfully orchestrated) will be epic as well.
I have the afternoon off work today and I'm literally counting the minutes till 1up's big reveal of GOW3 media.

If it's something dull that doesn't stand out that's concerning you, might I suggest a better conditioner with your shampoo . . . because that matters just about as much as your judgment.

Kratos is coming (the real GOW series) all other games better bow out gracefully! GOW3 is the only game I would pay today just to play the damn demo!

OMG! The screens are amazing, particularly the one where Kratos is stabbing that big critter in the chest. There is absoultely no doubt at this point that GoW 3 will be incredible especially considering the screens are from a pre-Alpha build.
