Finally, the Wii Showing Support for its Hardcore Fans

At the NY Comicon, the biggest surprise there was the Nintendo Wii. Surprisingly, Wii introduced many hardcore games for the hard core fans. These games include The Conduit, Mad World, Sonic Black Night, & Tenchu Shadow Assassins. These games are meant for the serious Nintendo fans that have been deprived of hardcore games since last year, but as of now, Nintendo means business.

Lol the two comments on their actually indicates that they regret selling their Wii.

It was just obvious that it would take sometime, we all saw it happen to the DS.

No regrets here. I bought mine at launch and probably only spent 4-5 hours between 6 games on it before gravitating back to my PS3/360. There's just no comparison. I'm sure the Wii would be fine if it was your only choice, but I had to force myself to use it and both my wife and I couldn't stand the controllers. When a guy at work mentioned his wife wanted one I jumped at the chance to sell him mine. I still haven't decided what to do with the $400 he gave me for everything. Maybe I'll buy another PS3 for my upstairs TV and use it as a media center and the occasional multiplayer match.

Edit: @ Sidar. Funny you should mention the DS. I also had a DS for just over a year before seeing Syphon Filter and God of War coming up for the PSP and realized I made a mistake. Not quite the same thing as yet another top down Zelda game (don't get me wrong, I loved these games...when I was 12.)

mint royale3228d ago (Edited 3228d ago )

it gets just as much playtime as my ps/360. If i'm feeling lazy I can lay back and just play on the ps/360 but if i'm in a hyperactive mood I can play on the wii. To me the wii is much more fun whilst the 360/ps3 are much more serious. I don't mind shooters but the point of games is to have fun and for me the wii is the best at that.

EDIT: @darkride - I think sidar's point was that the DS was similarly critisied for a lack of games and suddenly 2 years into its life the hardcore games came followed by furhter floods resulting in the DS demolishing the psp in harware and software sales. There is no reason why this shouldn't happen for the wii.

ChickeyCantor3228d ago (Edited 3228d ago )

I also have a PS3, and i don't feel forced.

" Syphon Filter and God of War coming up for the PSP and realized I made a mistake"

Ok not to be rude but are you an idiot? really.
How is it a mistake, why is it not possible to own them both( PSP and DS )?

My point with the DS is that in the beginning it was filled with shovelware too and eventually quality games started to rise.

To say you only liked those games when you were 12 is a weak excuus. You rather put down a game because it has a friendly look while it still contains lots of quality over a game that is just Darktoned( no dont get me wrong i bet they are both full of quality, but its clear what you are doing here.) Also you think you made a mistake just because of 2 games....=/ i guess you missed half of the DS library.

Edit:
@mint
At least you got it =).

Anon19743228d ago

I wasn't saying the DS had a lack of games, it most certainly didn't, just a lack of games that I in particular wanted to play. @ sidar, no need to be rude - I just don't need 2 portable gaming devices and I frankly didn't like my DS. It was bulky and yet made for someone with smaller hands (at least the one I had) and the games were just so damn cutsie. I'm 35. I use my PSP to occupy my time while I'm waiting in airports or when I'm in hotels on the road and I found the best games that system had to offer quite frankly bored the crap out of me. Wario and Zelda, Metroid and Mario. Great reviews but I just didn't find them occupying my time. And it's not just the cutsie over more mature fair. I love LBP and Pixel Junk Monsters. I just didn't need to play more Mario.

And I found that on my Wii as well. I wanted to like it. Hell, I feel guilty even now that I sold it but I just couldn't force myself to play it. I had both Mario Galaxy and Zelda TW. Played all the other games and did not feel compelled to play either of these, so what's the point of having a console you don't play when someone without one could be enjoying it?

I'm not passing judgement on these systems, don't take this the wrong way. Just sharing my storey.

Jinxstar3228d ago

There is enough reason for me to keep it simply because of BC with the GC. i have the Zelda Promo disc with OOT and Majoras mask and such as well as Windwaker and Rogue Squadron... Plus I am hoping for a Earthworm Jim 2 DL from Virtual Console and Mad world looks fun =D

ChickeyCantor3228d ago (Edited 3228d ago )

" and the games were just so damn cutsie. I'm 35"

Still think its a weak excuse xD.

Obviously you think Wii only has Mario or Zelda to offer.
Thats why i made that comment on people regretting selling their Wii.
They think EXACTLY like you. in discussion they bring up MARIO AND ZELDA.
But in fact 2009 brings some games that look like to be great THIRD PARTY titles that are not MARIO AND ZELDA.

On the other hand though, you dont wanna play another mario yet a nother god of war?
Look i don't wanna sound like an @sshole, but i just find some of these arguments/statements annoying as it just overlaps with the things you actually hate or like.(goes for any person).

You found yourself FORCED to play it, very well but keep in mind you are also gonna miss out some games.

EDIT:
You are also contradicting yourself
First you say you are 35, so cute things wont cut it for ya.
Yet you like LBP.

And like i said there is more than mario =).

So as of right now i don't really get what you are trying to say about your age and the way you look at "cute" things.

Jinxstar3228d ago

Mario, Zelda, Boom Blox and Metal Slug are my current list. not a fan of metroid but it looked good. House of the dead looks ok... The new one... Still though I feel Zelda was one of the top 3 games this gen... Along woth COD4 and Dead Space.... Thats me though. The wii has potential but most devs can make a crap game and cash in like mad as opposed to really trying and making a good game and making the same amount... when M&M Racing makes as much as Mad World Dev's start to wonder...

Anon19743228d ago (Edited 3228d ago )

Yeah, the LBP confused me too. While I was playing Mario Galaxy, I couldn't figure out why I just didn't like it. I eventually settled on - I'm too old, it's too cute, it just doesn't work for me anymore. That also in my mind explained why I couldn't get into Zelda - the minish cap, Super Mario, etc on my DS.
Then LBP came along and trounced that theory...because that game is fantastic.
My new theory is the controllers. As my wife asked "So, am I going to have to keep pointing this stupid thing at the screen all the time?" Kudos for Nintendo for trying something different, but once the initial novelty of the Wii-mote wore off I was trying to play Medal of Honor with it and I hated it. Not accurate, not responsive...I just didn't like it. Some do and that's good for them. I didn't.

As for 2009 having good games for the Wii, that's great but it's too late for me. I had 2 years and 10 of the highest rated games out there for the Wii and I still couldn't bring myself to spend anytime with it. That's $500 worth of Mario, Zelda, Zak and Wiki, Wario, MOH, Rayman etc and the only game I miss is World of Goo. That was all money that could have been spent of games I'd actually play.

I have to admit...I don't get it. I've been a gamer since my first Vic-20 back in the day, I love videogames - there's no better way to unwind after a day at the office and I cannot for the life of me understand the appeal of the Wii over the 360 or PS3. It's not that it's a bad system - it's a great little system, I just don't know why anyone would pick it over the other two. I shouldn't need over 2 years to "get into" a console. I jumped aboard the Wii bandwagon and it was slow, the hay was itchy, kids were screaming and it was cold. I finally just had to say "Let me off here, thanks."

ChickeyCantor3228d ago (Edited 3228d ago )

" , but once the initial novelty of the Wii-mote wore off I was trying to play Medal of Honor with it and I hated it. Not accurate, not responsive.."

I hope you are talking about the first release....cause that was one of the worst programmed video game for a console ever.

And i don't really get what people mean by not responsive...hell even redsteel was responsive for aiming and shooting(not talking about the sword fighting, we are not allowed to talk about that).

Of course its up to you to say what you like, i just think its a shame that [gamers] will miss out.

Anon19743228d ago

Anyway, it received fairly decent reviews.
I always had issues with my Wii-motes, and I've had people tell me the same. It couldn't accurately point in the corners or lower bottom of the screen. I thought that it was just because I was playing it using my projector, maybe it wasn't meant to be played on a screen that big but I hooked it up to my regular TV upstairs in hopes I'd actually play it more and still had the same issues. No amount of tweaking or calibration seemed to fix that. It didn't affect many games but it did have me throwing up my hands in frustration more than a few times.
Anyway...doesn't matter now.

Voiceofreason3228d ago

There is only one word for someone who hated every single game on Wii for being casual but ate up LBP. Fanboy is the word. Certainly cannot be gamer since a real gamer could find something to play and enjoy on any console.6 hours on a few games for 2 years? I got that much time my first day..

These are the stories I doubt the person actually owned a Wii. I just cant see any person that posts on gaming sites being so ignorant of what a console has to offer that they buy one they instantly hate. Dont get me wrong I think the PS3 was a complete POS but I at least tried put in 30 hours of play time on it before deciding it just wasnt worth the price and I mean more than just the 600.00 price tag(supporting a company that pretty much called you stupid has its own price you know. I just thought the price+insults-dignity was not equal to the amount of fun I had on it.)

"Do you have any idea how many times I've heard people talking about The Conduit when it can barely even compare to any modern shooter on PS3/360?"

--- If you are talking about a graphic comparison, fine. I think most people understand that the Wii is underpowered compared to PS3/360 (The game still looks great). I cannot however let you pretend that anything on either console can offer what The Conduit does in the controls department. Wiimote/Nunchuck is simply a superior configuration for FPS’s.

"Wii fans are desperately clinging to the hope that some random 3rd party dev will save them by delivering a game that will have to be better than the hardware its made for. Give me a break."

--- If you think that the quality of software is determined strictly by the hardware that its on, then you are very lost indeed. I'm also getting very tired of hearing people describing Wii owners as desperate or clingy. C'mon dude, there was a 3 week period where 4 out of every 5 stories on N4G were about KZ2. Thats great! Get excited! but please don't pretend that Wii owners are a bunch of starving babies hoping to suck a drop off of Nintendo's Tit. Its natural to get excited about good games.

"Its true, PS3 fans do talk about the great games coming out. They do it alot. The difference is, PS3 fans are GETTING these games, and we know they are great. Many of the great games that were talked about are now out and are being enjoyed by millions. They have lived up to the hype. They have proven themselves. The same cannot be said for many 3rd party wii games."

--- Same goes for Wii, I've got a great library, with many more games to come.

"There is no point in arguing about this, Wii fanboys are so blind to how Nintendo feels about them this gen, its like talking to a brick wall."

--- Do you think that MS and Sony want to kiss you on the forehead and tuck you in at Night? I'd hope not, they want Money. If either company could go back in time, I guarantee they would follow the Wii's footsteps.

"I don't care who disagrees with me or what you guys think, but wake me up when Nintendo isn't trying to please the hardcore audience with games like Animal Crossing Wii."

--- Well, you've really summed us all up here. Nothing more than a bunch of desperate, clingy Animal Crossing fans getting bent over by the Big N.

Wii-Haters have pretty selective memory. They accuse Nintendo of screwing us all over, but I would all of them to think back just a little.

Because they thought they could get away with it, Sony charged $600 for PS3 at launch!!! If PS3's were selling like Wii's, do you think they would have dropped the price?

Microsoft may have charged a little less, but thats only because they cut corners on production costs and released faulty hardware. MS also charges for everything, Live, WiFi, etc.

My original Twilight Princess disk got pretty roughed up when I lent it out. I called Nintendo, and had a replacement disk in 1 week.
A few weeks ago, a story was posted about Nintendo replacing a Wii that was lost in a fire. With it, Nintendo sent a personal letter to the owner wishing him and his family luck.

Those Bastards...

Edit... This was supposed to be a response to 5 @ PistolPumptMonk

Every fan of the Wii is constantly talking about the GREAT 3rd party games that are COMING... Why should we have to wait year after year for games like Mad World and The Conduit, completely unproven games that we cannot be sure will be great until we play them?

Lets just face it, the Wii has its place in the gaming industry, but if you want "hardcore" gaming, you game on the PS3/360. I won't bother listing all of the amazing "hardcore" games both of these systems have, I assume if you are really a gamer you already know. The point is, a few unproven 3rd party games, even if they turn out amazing, will NOT be enough to put the Wii in the same ballpark as PS3/360 when it comes to legit hardcore gaming. And don't start with the "Oh but we already have Mario / Zelda blah blah blah..." Yes I realize that, but that is well in the past, and a few good games cannot begin to compete with what the PS3 and 360 have had, even as recently as last fall.

mint royale3228d ago

'Every fan of the Wii is constantly talking about the GREAT 3rd party games that are COMING'

Haha i'm sorry but that made me laugh. That is not a wii trait but more of a playstation trait this gen. I completely agree with you when you say we have no idea if these games will be great but the same could be said for games such as heavy rain. I feel I don't even need to bring examples such as lair and haze into the argument either...

PistolPumptMonk3228d ago (Edited 3228d ago )
