TED writes: Bill Gates hopes to solve some of the world's biggest problems using a new kind of philanthropy.
bill gates change the world...meh
he should start with the RROD issue
He's actually a genius. As a school student hes the first person to actually come up with a solution to shlt teachers (trust me i know them, and theres nothing i can do to fix that i've tried) we got a teacher recently with an amazing CV in art, yet she can't teach jack shlt. Our best teacher is funny, energitic, can control the class well. He taught us religious study, and i've learnt a lot about religion and the bible makes much more sense. what bill gates is suggesting would really help teachers out, its a win win situation. microsoft how ever, fix rrod!
Fck you Bill?
I like Bill,but he won't succeed.
That was a great presentation. I'm glad he set his sights on something that will make a real difference in the world.
Even during his MS days Bill Gates was the #1 philanthropist in the world and contributed the most money to charities of anyone. Also, in his will some obscenely high percentage of his money goes to charities when he dies. His kids are sort of getting the shaft. oh well, they'll have to earn it like everyone else.
Instead of dumping 7 billion dollars on an industry you don't really belong to, how about donating everything to hospitals, schools, colleges and universities? Hell, even a political cause would have been a lot better than the quality disaster you and your company chose.
the dude has so much money, he actually does donate ALOT of it to charity's and hospitals etc. and thats why i respect the man. but if i were him... just f****** retire for good already and enjoy your infinite amount of money! : )
Well it really looks like you have no idea what you're talking about gametheory. Bill Gates has donated computers to schools all over the world especially third world countries.
he don't exactly work at microsoft anymore, he still owns alot of MS (shares).. but he don't work there anymore.. but yeah.. Bill is a cool guy.. i may hate him for stealing ideas and saying it's his own.. but he's got a heart and does care about the world..
Unlike a$$'s like bush who spends Billion's of American tax payers money. But since Iraq has the potential to be the biggest oil supplier ahead of Saudi Arabia it was a good choice since Bush is guna get all the monies. Sooner or later its going to end up like World Euthanasia.
What I would like to ask to all of you who are bashing Bill for his philanthropy effort is this: WTF are you personally doing to help the world? Seriously, I'd like to know... I'll even start... I've spent the past 7 years working in a company that works exclusively with non-profits to help them acquire more donors. I don't make a lot, and I work too hard most of the time, but at the end of the day I feel like I've done something good. Now, tell me all you Bill Gate's bashers what are you doing... if it is something, then good for your, bash away... but if it is nothing, then get up off your ass and do something besides complaining about your RROD and how much you hate MS. Sorry, I tend to get a little passionate about some things.
it's for a good cause
Hey the dude feels sorry for taking money now for himself, he is actually doing good things for the benefit of the world. Anyone see the conference where he let loose a jar of misquitoes into the crowd for his malaria benefit? Classic!
I love Bill Gates.
If any problem is solvable then why does his technology not work? Maybe he should focus on the people his company has upset through shoddy products before trying to be the second coming. It just shows that if you have enough money even the most level headed of us turn into w*nkers. Oh, yeah, I gots my big wooden spoon out an' I'm stirring
Yeah cause a faulty operating system is a real problem for humanity... Grow up.
a) just think of what you just said. b) he retired from MS to pursue charity so he has little control over how the company is run now.
I got one already! Hook, line aaannd SINKER. lol
whatever you want bill, just don't ruin the world....!
do a bit more research on bill gates donations before posting up crap like that
Just fix RROD and mkae Windows 7 good and you will have kept me happy Billy Boy
I admire him and his work. I Believe he can make anything work too. Microsoft's motto is : "embrace, extend and extinguish". That motto has worked for getting rid of competitors, so I believe it can work for problems like this.
"to Damian Browne: I have to say, my heart skipped a beat when i read what you had to say. "I really don't think it is such a good idea to wipe out deadly diseases (which are completely natural) in an overpopulated world" - that is an outrageous statement. Of course it would be nicer to live in a world that doesn't have 6.5 billion people. Maybe 250 million would be just right so we could do pretty much water the hell we wanted and not have to worry about global warming or any other form of global destruction of nature. But it is exactly people like you and me who are the principal culprits in tragedy. So to deny the poorest and the weakest the right to live by standing by and watching them die just so we can go on in our reckless way of living is as close to genocide as you will ever get without actually putting the people in a gas chamber." ............................. .............................. . ...... .............................. .............................. ....... Reading this comment struck a chord. Personally, I think he is half right.. without natural death, the world is destined to be overpopulated... looking to space is the next frontier for humans, imo... while that may sound stupid to some, I don't think so. Without natural death, there is an upset in the balance of nature and to be honest, we're what is upsetting the balance of many if not all things on this planet. I feel bad for thinking like this, because, honestly, I'm a good person and I don't wish death on anyone, but damn... the world is so F'ED! Eh, anyway... I ran off topic from comments that were posted on the website, for the article. I hope Bill succeeds, because right now, America is behind in a lot of things, academics is just one of them.
u know if theres too many people in this world like u guys say and u feel death is necessary to better everyone elses lives... well how bout u go ahead and do us all a favor and take one for the team. Kill yourselves instead of offering up others to die for you.
