IGN: Mytran Wars Review

Mytran Wars offers players a standard strategy experience with plenty of tech trees, multiple mission objects and an interesting premise, but the game suffers from cumbersome mechanics, awkward unit management and an art/writing style that feels like an amateur effort. In other words: buyer beware.

Tech-Gaming: Mytran Wars Review

In the beginning, there was only "Game." In time, Game begat Role Playing Game. Role Playing Game begat Strategy Role Playing Game who, in turn, finally begat Giant Robot Role Playing Game. In the family tree of video games, few branches are as esoteric as the "GRSRPG," sporting only a few titles such as Front Mission and Super Robot Wars, and it is a sub-genre that has had very little success in the West. Nevertheless, Stormregion has tried to break into this niche-within-a-niche in their new PSP title, Mytran Wars.

Guardian: Mytran Wars Review

Obviously the fun comes from beefing up your mechs with strap-on weapons and upgrades before swarming across the landscape and out-manoeuvring your enemy. Plotwise it's full of twists and turns and, despite some terrible voice acting, it's hard not to get sucked into the story, which comes jam-packed with missions and well animated battles. It's a lot more inventive and action-packed than you might expect, and well worth a look for game-starved PSP'ers.
