StarCraft 2 Demo PC Hardware Analysed

StarcraftWire.net's Tech Guru Kalos, who's known for uncovering the graphics requirements of StarCraft 2 about half a year ago, has analysed the hardware in the SC2 demo PCs to give further insight in exactly what we can expect to have to buy in order to play StarCraft 2. The laptops used at ESL are powerhouse machines, but is all that processing power really necessary?

I hope not, my comp is a 2.01 single core... I have a hunch I may need to upgrade before SCII

Well, I WILL have to upgrade. Mine complains when I play WoW in maximised windowed mode. Fortunately, I have money saved up, and as soon as an official beta date is up, I'll order the best I can get for my money ;)

Ouch. 2.01 Ghz single core; hopefully that is an early Athlon 64 processor, else it'd be lower still. An Athlon 64 should stand a good chance, if it is coupled with a decent graphics card and enough ram.

well when you say that... no. It's 32 bit with 1gb of DDR1 RAM and an Nvidia 7600 =P

Yes, all Blizzard games are Mac compatible. I am unsure if Kalos would know mac stats, but he can likely give you a pointer. How old is your Mac?

Indeed so, Blizzard was very quick to stress that this will work with the most modern Intel Mac computers as well as Windows XP and Vista machines, though they have refused so far to make any comment on the likelyhood of Windows Seven support, which is almost certain to be there as well (if it isn't, Starcraft II isn't going to be playable very long at all).

Good article. Depressing though, I really need to upgrade.

I should be clear in this post, that the machine positively identified is quite, quite high end and far above the normal levels of gamer hardware. It is highly unlikely that it is going to be typical of the machines that Starcraft II will be played upon for the majority of gamers. However, it is the first full garenteed specifications, in which if you have these or above, you're going to be running Starcraft II pretty damn well and with some great eye candy features turned on.

Heh, that's good to know. I think I'll buy something in that scale anyway, though, and I DO want it to be a laptop as well!
