Is Your ISP Throttling Your Internet Connection?

PC World writes, "Think your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is messing with your connection performance? Now you can find out, with Google's new online tools that will diagnose your network connection. Here's a quick walkthrough on how to make the best of them.

Google's broadband test tools are located at On that page, you'll see an first icon that says "Users: Test Your Internet Connection". Click that, and then you'll be taken to a page where there are three tests available, and two more listed as coming soon. However, out of the three available tests, only one of them is fully automated and easy to use. "

Streaming Netflix is flawless. 4 bars (highest quality) every time.

Wish I could say the same about my basic Verizon DSL. I'm happy when a bandwidth test comes out over 1 Mbps. Maybe happy isn't the right word. Maybe more like content that my connection isn't going half that speed like it tends to do.

and I love it. 20 down 5 up. No problems really while gaming or anything but i'll still give this check a go by.

i have the plan that provides 3 mbps, but for some reason i get less than that, i called about it and everything, nothing was done about it. my online gaming SUCKS! i could play metal gear online just fine but when i turn on my microphone it was lags up and exits....

my test results say that Verizon is limiting my connection really low....what can i do about this? i called and they say that they don't know anything about that.....losers.

No, I have O2 and it's much better than BT, what I used to have. Around 5Mbit/1Mbit and I pay only £7.50 a month.

Edit: WTF I did not reply to this.

I have basic DSL too and I noticed that my connection starts spazzing out, like my modem will randomly disconnect itself or my internet speed will be super slow, during the middle of every month.Does this happen to you too?I'm in NYC so I don't know if it's different for other regions.

With Comcast, it's just unpredictable. I would love to move over to SureWest, but they only service in more "wealthy areas". I'm one of the many people under the boot of Commucastism.

My Internet is usually pretty fast, but I always wonder, should it be faster? Guess now I can find out.
