As a game, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was one of the most visually impressive games on the N64, despite all the fog. As a franchise, it may have overstayed its welcome. And that may have been borne out by the rumored cancellation of a Turok sequel.
They should really stop dragging out franchises to their death. Crash Bandicoot stopped being good after Crash Team Racing. Crash Team Racing is one of the best games of all time, and it should have stopped there. Spyro is another fantastic platforming game that actually just went downhill after they started introducing other playable characters and weird gameplay mechanics and it should have been stopped after 3. I think most sports games should die off; we've already played them, and what's a simple graphical upgrade? Yet these games get rated very highly each year despite adding practically NOTHING new - maybe a new mode that nobody cares about. Playing a 10-year-old sports game is as fun as playing a recent one. GTA needs revitalising. In my eyes, it's been the same since GTA3 - the real revolution in gameplay. Since then, there have just been gimmicky additions, new, expanded levels and more missions. Sure, those games were also fun, but there have been far too many GTAs based on the exact same formula. Adding in the ability to get your hair cut isn't exactly as big a leap as the jump from 2D to 3D.
If the sequels/prequels are quality games, so what if they make more? The last turok wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. I believe there are 2 sides to this coin. There are good and bad sequels.
Basically Crash and Spyro stopped being good once Naughty Dog and Insomniac stopped making them.
I think turok could be better delivered if the franchise continues. I think capcoms Dino crisis ended after the 3 installment and those were great games imo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Good! Has anyone played the last game? Probably not because it was horrible. This franchise is long overdue for cancellation, or at least take a ten year break. Now, if only someone would tell that to whoever owns the rights to Sonic...
I played the demo. It was... painful. I mean, FPS isn't my favourite genre, but I do enjoy the good ones and I do like dinosaurs and shooting dinosaurs and what not.... Ugh. Terrible. If there's one think Turok did right, it's show you how helpless you are against a raptor attack, even with a gun.
I disagree the last one was better than turok 3 for the ps2. The last Turok at least had some sort of story with decent gameplay. My complaint about it was there was not enough blood and the online was crap. I can think of a whole bunch of other games that were worst than Turok. The hype with the release kind of killed it.
Fingers crossed then
...The Turok for the N64 is still the best.
Totally agree that was a hit and the tech was very good at the time.
I used to play that nonstop. I was a maniac in that game, lol. :D
