UK movie magazine Empire has given Resident Evil 5 top marks in what is seemingly the first review of the survival horror title.
Empire has since removed the review from their website.
dont agree. I thought the gameplay was really sluggish. It felt as if i were a tank. Aiming is a little weird. And overall i don't see much of an improvement from RE4. The animations are pretty poor considering a game like this and the graphical details outside of the character models aren't so great. I thought the co op was cool, only for a bit though, i can't see myself comming back to it. Well the game aint gold so there is still time to improve.
and the gameplay looked last-gen but i aint played it so i cant put it down
I finally got around to playing the X360 demo this morning, and I was truely disappointed. It felts so clunky and sluggish. You have to stand still to shoot, then move to somewhere else, the stand to shoot again. The aiming is really bad as well, with the slightest move of the analogue stick moving the red laser sight miles from where you want it. The inventory panel again is really clunky, and basicly crap. With games like Gears of War, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, and even Dark Sector and Lost Planet that play from a 3rd Perspective View and play a whole lot better than RE5, I think Capcom need to start worrying. This could be a HUGE disappointment.
They must not have played anything near the demo I screamed at for hours on end.
Its from Empire, so i will take this with a grain of salt. Still i didn't like the demo at all, and at present i'm giving this one a miss and will probably pick up Halo Wars or Sega Mega Drive Ultimate collection instead. Edit - Who ever disagreed please state that is it because you think Empire reviews are reliable or you don't like the fact that i didn't like the demo?
But if it's higher than a 9.8, I'm going to cry foul. EDIT: 10/10 (5-stars)? Pssh!
looooooool pssh !!
Better than Killzone 2 confirmed. /sarcasm I seriously wonder how some websites can call themselves reviewers. It's true everyone has their own opinion but when you say MGS4 and Wii Music is tied *cough 1UP* then there is something wrong. I also played the R5 demo and I seriously think it's not better than Killzone 2 but whatever, it's their opinion.
yet KZ2 only get 4/5. oh oh.
This game is a few months off release yet so how the hell are they reviewing it? I know the game is probably like 98% complete with just some fine tuning and polishing being done here and there, but this review is so early I question what it is based on?
Its only 42 days away. Not that I agree with them lol.
lol empire games reviews are terrible they always hate on sony.
1. You guys shouldn't judge a game by it's demo. 2. where were you guys to complain when Capcom first said they were staying with same RE4 controls? they would've done something to change it back then...now it's too late. 3. RE4 wasn't great because of the controls, it was great because at was refreshing to the series, intense and FUN.
I think RE5 will be a perfect example of the hypocrisy in game reviewing, simply because its a big name game, its Resident Evil! Therefore it "has" to get good marks. Nevermind that it's controls are outdated with the advent of titles like Dead Space, its RE! Who cares?! That will be the mentality.
Dead Space = my Resident Evil. I won't even rent this game. Its garbage. The only thing good about the game is the graphics from what Ive seen. I know I shouldn't judge games by their demos, but this game couldn't possibly get any better or worse from what I seen. I think they need to start the series from scratch again. Or just call it something else because its changed for the worse since part 4. The should have stuck with the old school gameplay.
I love the irony of your comment "I know I shouldn't judge games by their demos" Did I miss the point of a Demo? or Demonstration? anyway I understand your point, if you didn't like RE4 and thought the series died there, then fair enough you aint going to like RE5 What I don't understand are the people who loved RE4 and are saying RE5 is terrible, as if it's the worst game released in years! My opinion of the demo was that it hasn't evolved much from the 4th game, and just feels like a prettier version of RE4, this was slightly disappointing, but at the end of the day Resident Evil 4 is the game I played for most last gen so ultimately I should get plenty of entertainment out of this!
Anyone who disses Resident Evil 5 has something wrong with their head. or even hasn't even played the demo and just dislikes Capcom :/
looks like a movie central site, who cares.
Using the D control setting was a perfect balance of RE4 and the newer contol styles of Gears/Drakes. I increased the sensitivity which sped up aiming perfectly. It was suspenseful in that I had to run to a spot and turn and shoot - which is similar to Gears in a way - you must seek cover - you can't just run around and shoot everything Serious Sam style. Anyway, between this and Killzone 2, this is going to be a great late winter/early spring
I loved the demo, and I've heard that coop is a blast. I'll probably try it out with my roommate later on. I'm a fan of the Gears of War/ Uncharted gameplay, and I loved RE4, so this game is great. And nobody here can really judge the game themselves yet, as they've only played the demo. The magazine is infinitely more credible than anyone on this site simply because it is an official magazine, not some random blog. Between this and Killzone, I'm looking forward to the next couple months.
