Six Things Microsoft and Nintendo Should Steal from Sony

This is the first of a three part series where we (Second Story Gamer) discuss the advantages of each of the three video game console makers. Obviously, this first article is about Sony.

Here are six things that Sony has done brilliantly, six things that Microsoft and Nintendo should steal in an instant.

I only Agree With

6. Put a Hard Drive in Every Console
3. Make Rechargeable Batteries the Standard
1. Build a Future-Proof Console

MS Need to have as much First and Second Party Support as Sony, since all 3rd parties are done with exclusive i don't think hardcore gamer will be satisfice with exclusive DLC

and

MS need to make Live free, the minute PS3 got a 60MP(Resistance 2) game lag free you know PSN is getting close.

Dark_Torment3279d ago

I say that and #5. But that's probably just me..

Just buy the freaking PRO 360 if you want HDD. They made the arcade for casual gamers who just want to sit down and play "arcade style". Smart move i believe. Most people get the Pro anyway but MS was giving options which is wise.

On the other hand it would have been nice, but i still do not see why people complain about it, you have the options. On the other hand MS did screw a lot people over with the NXE but they did come up with an alternative which was better then nothing...

FarEastOrient3279d ago

They should also make Xbox Live free, I've had an Xbox launch model and two and half years of Gold. The argument of the Xbox being cheaper than a PS3 is a joke, so far I've spent $550 on the unit and gold, even more if you include everything else.

Why should I pay for Xbox Live when games like Halo and Gears of War are still relying on peer to peer networking and hosting? Sony, even though not perfect themselves have dedicated servers for all their games hosted by Sony or other publishers and yet they charge nothing for that service.

No Way3279d ago

I agree with you, totally..
Those are the only ones I agree with, as well.

They are already doing well with number five(5). No need to copy Sony on that front.

Number four(4). Addition of Blu-Ray? It'd be nice, but why bother if they(MS) are going for Digital Distribution.

And, two(2) would also be nice, but I get enough from them, so, I'm not complaining.

The Fungus3279d ago

It's not only that the user doesn't have a hard drive if they get the 'wrong' model, its that developers can't rely on the hdd when making games since its not always there. This lowers the quality of games just a tad in some areas. Choice is great and all, but at what expense?

Jake11113278d ago

7. Interchangeable hard drive to non standard. I put a 320gig in my PS3. My 360 still has the original 10gig. There is no way I am going to buy microsofts drive as it is so expensive.

8. Free online

1: No console is truely future proof.
6: Didn't Sony "steal" that from MS. Valid point though.

1: No console is truely future proof.

6: Does Every 360 have a harddrive?
1: Blu Ray?, The Cells? A HDD in Every System? out of the 2 hardcore console out there the ps3 is most future proof.

GameOn3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

Every xbox did. Every 360 should.

Make sense now?

PS3 is clearly more future proof than the rest, but that doesnt affect what I said.

MasFlowKiller3279d ago

you said it "should", the name of the article "Six Things Microsoft and Nintendo SHOULD Steal from Sony"

I bet you didn't see that coming

GameOn3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

It's more like stealing it from them selves rather than Sony don't you think?

What I said before still stands. You're just having trouble understanding my points.

MasFlowKiller3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

"It's more like stealing it from them selves rather than Sony don't you think?"

for the next gen of console yes you are right

but i think this article is meant for this gen of consoles

GameOn3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

How are they supose to "steal" the standard hard drive idea this gen when it has already started + it was their idea in the first place when they did it last gen.

Lets agree to disagree on this one. Thanks for not lowering yourself to name calling.

MasFlowKiller3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

what the article is trying to say it that both MS and Nintendo should have implemented those ideas this generation

"Lets agree to disagree on this one. Thanks for not lowering yourself to name calling."

I don't like to think of myself as a fanboy because i own both consoles, but i like sony a lil more this gen for the game their bringing

GameOn3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

"what the article is trying to say it that both MS and Nintendo should have implemented those ideas this generation "

To which I agree. But it would hardly be copying Sony (on the subject of standard hard drive).

MasFlowKiller3279d ago

Yeah i see you point on that one, i guess the real question is why didn't Microsoft make it standard this generation too?

too bad we cant keep this gentlemen argument going, am all out of bubbles.

but it was fun

Nothing wrong with friendly debate.

Max Power3279d ago

do you forget that the PS2 had a HDD expansion slot. So sony did see the value of a HDD before MS was thinking about entering the video game console game. One reason i am sure that Sony didn't have a HDD with in the PS2 was the price of those HDD at the time. MS already came out and said that they lost a ton of money because they made the HDD standard, that is why the 360 doesn't have a standard HDD because they lost money on it before. So if you want to really go back to whom started the HDD thing was Nintendo back in the 64 days, remember it had a slot on the bottom of the console for a HDD add on, but it never came.

GameOn3279d ago

You're right but I was merely refering to the standard hard drive in every console remark in the article.

I believe it was the xbox which was the first console to do exactly that.

My point is the 360 shouldn't have copied the PS3 and had standard hard drives. They should have just kept the standard hard drive idea from the original xbox.

That is basicly what I have been trying to say.

Max Power3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

ditched it, and sony took it and did it better. also how do you know that sony wasn't already planning on do that for the ps3 while they were make the ps2 and realized it just wasn't viable at the time?

Consoldtobots3279d ago (Edited 3279d ago )

no hardware is future proof unless it moves along its own development curve, thats what sony's first party studios provide. When the PC industry is crying to for more hardware power to run ever increasing bloatware built on last generation data design, PS3 games will get better and better because of it's dedicated hardware amd innovative coding techniques now being developed by its first party developers.

GameOn3279d ago

"and they ditched it, and sony took it and did it better"
- This is true but doesn't affect what I have been saying.

"also how do you know that sony wasn't already planning on do that for the ps3 while they were make the ps2 and realized it just wasn't viable at the time?"
- I find it hard to understand this sentence. Fact of the matter is the original xbox was the first and the 360 should have copied the standard hard drives from that, not the ps3(since ps3 wasn't out and xbox was the first to do it).

Never before have I had such a hard time trying to explain such a simple thing to some one. Maybe My english ins't as good as I thought it was.

Anyway bubbles out so bye bye.

Interesting...

Godmars2903279d ago

It took Nintendo two consoles to implement DVD and then they made an issue about movie playback, a move that cost MS tons of points with Xbox1 - what are they going to do w/Blu-ray?

As for MS, they're too much of a control freak for #2 and #5. Will do everything they can not to do #4 because Sony didn't use iHD in BR.

vincentvegawchz3279d ago

Microsoft knew they should have put hard drives in every Console, but they also are smart marketers and they know that cheap stuff sells. Good Idea to start the Console war strong, but it is Not future proof because of that, THe Next Xbox that is going to be made is going to be competing with the PS3, thats how i look at it, sony will keep the PS3 on its feet for a long time, while Microsoft and Nintendo release new consoles, then MS will be battleing with a PS3 that is 199 and has the same features and Tech Specs and the next Gen Xbox. I dont know what i think about nintendo, I think it is neat for moms and kids, but thats it, im not interested in it, i am not downing any system in this Post, i just was saying that the Future Proof was the Deciding Factor in Winning this Gen of Console wars!
