New Research Suggests Violent Games Increase Your Number of Sexual Partners

Negative Gamer write:

"Essentially, the report questioned hundreds of students on a large number of topics. Internet use, porn, video games, sexual partners, drugs and relationships were all topics that students were asked about. The report then used the power of maths to find correlations between them.

The report only once makes mention of the fact that a correlation does in no way suggest either cause, effect or even a solid relationship between the actions in question. From looking over their results they appear to have found types of personalities, not cause and effect."

...and next week "violent video games make you stub your toe more"

wardrox3339d ago (Edited 3339d ago )

This "research" comes from the (via wikipedia) "Brigham Young University (BYU), located in Provo, Utah, United States, is a private, coeducational research university owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon Church)."

Hardly surprising that they arrived at the concludion that "Everything we found associated with video games came out negative."

Sorry for those people who just went out and frantically started looking for Manhunt :P

I agree I read a similar research else where.

Proxy3339d ago

I don't understand what your trying to say? Is it just an attempt to overthrow their research using Wikipedia?

lord_of_balrogs3339d ago (Edited 3339d ago )

The LDS or any Church hates pre-marital sex and it hates videogames because it corrupts our "youth." It makes sense that they would convenietly come to the conclusion that videogames lead to sin.

What's negative about having more sexual partners?

Personally, I don't see the problem >_>

Proxy3338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

So it's not credible because the school is owned by a church?

You may wish to note that the conclusion "Everything we found associated with video games came out negative." was made by a reporter writing about the research. It is NOT a conclusion made in the the research itself. The reporter is obviously bias in her reporting.

The research says that there is a correlation between sexual partners and video games. More partners, more video games, or visa-versa. It's a generalized statement.

As research clearly stated the correlations are not able to determine cause and effect. So the title of this article (on N4G) is not accurate.

Sharpshell3338d ago

that YOU are the one making unfair assumptions based on prejeduce over the church. If you read it you'd see that it doesn't suggest a cause and effect relationship just a coralation. Personally I think it makes sense, for instance the kinda guys who really like GeOW2 in my personal experience are all "friendly" shall we say with lots of diffrent ladies.

I assume their names are : LEFT and RIGHT.

pixelsword3338d ago

Mormons advocate multiple wives, so maybe it's a pro-videogames research paper?

wardrox3338d ago

"You may wish to note that the conclusion ... was made by a reporter writing about the research. It is NOT a conclusion made in the the research itself".

"said BYU professor Laura Walker, the article's lead author." Walker is the lead author of the research paper.

I wouldn't be surprised, this article basically states that except it's not your nose you're blowing.
