Low-end MacBook gets a boost

Apple has given a serious boost to the low-end MacBook, but did not raise the price. The strategy could raise some eyebrows, as the biggest upgrade is the decision to do away with integrated graphics.

The low-end MacBook will feature the Nvidia GeForce 9400M with 256MB of RAM, which is the same graphics used in the higher-end model. The boost in graphics performance should be very apparent.

While the $999 MacBook still features the white polycarbonate shell, it will now use the same 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 1066MHz bus that the mid-range model uses. In addition, the Bluetooth has been upgraded from version 2.0 to 2.1."
