What The Eff… Is Wrong With the Wii?

Loot Ninja writes:

"Over the past couple weeks, I have begun to lose some slight respect for Sony and have since gained respect for Nintendo and the Wii. As we all know by now, Kaz Hirai bashed Microsoft, and sincerely bashed the Wii stating, "It's difficult to talk about Nintendo because we don't look at their console as being competitors." I don't care what kind of esoteric meaning or different ways you can read into this statement because it's ridiculous. Last time I checked, the Wii sold more systems that both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 combined and the DS outsells the PSP."

The Wii really isn't the same as PS3 and Xbox 360. You can't even save music or videos on it. The gameplay is completely different than on PS3 and Xbox 360, but I have to admit it IS innovative. But fact is, not everyone likes this kind of innovativity. As a former Wii owner, I can say it was cool, but to me it got boring after a few weeks.
Sony and Microsofts consoles are pretty much similar (although there ARE differences), but the Wii is something completely different. I don't want to say it isn't a gaming console, absolutely not, but not even the graphics are CLOSE to PS3 and 360.
Considering these things, I think I get Hirais point. It's not false, because at the moment it's all about the Sony - Microsoft war...

it's completely different just because of the input device?
Eh, sorry buddy next to all the extra's like saving video's they are all 3 the same.

You can live in this whole bubble all you want, but there is a reason why it's a fact Nintendo owns the biggest market-share on the pie-chart.

They are fighting alright, maybe for the "gamers" its not but thats not reality or a fact.

It's a different target market for each system. Not a case of which system is better than which, its more of what does the end user want and how well each system fills out those wants.

but it doesn't change the fact that this is a totally valid argument and it's well written! The analogies made are precise to the circumstances. Sorry sony but you are competing with Nintendo. Your in worst denial then your players. Nintendo is an extremely strong player in the console market and sony CEO's burying their heads to that fact is exactly the reason why sony has posted a loss of a billion dollars this quarter.

GO FACTS!

unfortunately valid arguments never stop fanboys

It is interesting how the Nintendo fanboy is far more laid back and does not automatically begin to wish death on others like some others that will remain nameless.

Is that the Wii is SO successful, will Microsoft and Sony bow down to this mass-market drivel with their next systems? I play games like GTA4, Halo, Call of Duty, Dead Space, Forza, MGS4 Resistance, am dying to get my hands on Killzone 2...will these kinds of games suffer because Nintendo showed that you can make a fortune off of shovelware and required peripherals? I don't want a game where to have to act like your swinging a tennis racket to play it-- I'll just go play tennis if I want to do that. Likewise with golf, or whatever.

"The Wii really isn't the same as PS3 and Xbox 360. You can't even save music or videos on it. The game-play is completely different than on PS3 and Xbox 360"

These kinds of statements are really pointless. Never have systems been exactly the same, and if it was all about keeping systems the same and never trying new things, we'd probably still be playing 8-bit games on crappy D-pads.

It's worse now that even the companies are starting to claim these things...

Many markets experience change and variety, this is what keeps the market competitive and growing. Sony's just in denial so they don't have to face competition.

"Nintendo showed that you can make a fortune off of shovelware and required peripherals?"

Nintendo's not dishing out shovelware, and you talk as if Nintendo invented shovelware. These companies didn't pop out of no-where, they follow the most popular console. Am I the only one who remembers how many crappy games were on the PS-One, PS2, and other consoles?

" I don't want a game where to have to act like your swinging a tennis racket to play it-- I'll just go play tennis if I want to do that. Likewise with golf, or whatever."

Well I wish I had a tennis court, a bowling alley, golf course, etc all in my bedroom at once. Sure doing the real thing is great...but does this mean you're against every hockey, football, basketball, skateboarding, and baseball game ever created?

After all, I know *I'd* rather just go do the real thing.
