Digital Life: Nintendo Leading the pack

Jason Hill writes: "Following an astonishing 2008, Nintendo is confident that its hugely successful Wii and DS consoles will continue to dominate the charts this year.

Buoyed by record Christmas sales, including $37million worth of Nintendo product in just one week in December, Nintendo Australia managing director Rose Lappin does not expect the global financial crisis to dampen console sales.

"We will have to wait and see," she said, "but my thoughts are that it won't have a significant impact, based on the fact that gaming tends to survive in difficult markets."

But Ms Lappin believes the rampant growth in gaming hardware and software (over 40 per cent in 2008) is unsustainable."
