Internet 'pivotal in next generation of mobile handsets'

Manufacturers of the latest mobile phones are increasingly turning to internet-enabled features, an expert has said. Devices that do not incorporate high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) technology "will be left behind", stated Huw Morgan, editor of Mobile Choice magazine.

As part of attempts to increase their share of the mobile internet market, he said manufacturers are opting for "a portfolio of devices boasting HSDPA data speeds, touchscreen interfaces and excellent web browsers, as well as internet-savvy features like optical mice and RSS [Really Simple Syndication] feed readers".
