Ars: Sony and the "ten-year" console: a look at the argument

Ars writes: "In a time when both Hollywood and the gaming industry are just about the only two economic bright spots out there, Sony-a company with a giant foot in both worlds-has turned in some of the worst numbers in its history. But when asked to explain its lagging game sales, Sony has one answer that it can always fall back on: the PS3, you see, isn't a system that is focusing on the now. There may be a trend towards the Wii for a little while, and the 360 may be leading in sales at the moment, but the PS3 is a ten-year system. In other words, the system is yet in its infancy... but what does Sony mean by that? "

I play games, watch movies, and listen to music.

PS3 works great for me.

Sony: High Quality Console Champs.

My ps3 just last 2 years and now its bricked with YLOD! =(
Now sony wants $150 to fix it. I am really pi$$ed about it. I cashed out $600 for a system that last 2 years... Trust me. I am not that unlucky. This is a real problem and sony should be taking care of it like they are in UK otherwise this could grow to RROD proportions and I would hate to see that happening.

The new SKU's drives don't read constantly, like the old 60/20GBs. Thus less heat and less likelihood of breaking/overheating. I suggest never buying release consoles; Always some bugs to fix and hardware to upgrade.

It's not that I don't believe you, because I know of a guy who this just happened to...

But you've posted this same comment about 2 or 3 times in other threads.

Okay, we get it. You got the YloD. I'm sorry that happened and I hope you get it fixed soon.

You are one of the very, very few unlucky ones.

I am really frustrated that this happened to me and I am seeking for some comforting words from you guys since I can't cash out $150 on my bricked ps3 that should be working. This is the end of gaming for me at this point... I am really sad. =(

The other thing is that I am not unlucky at all and I really fear this will grow out of proportions like RROD.

UK replaces the bricked ps3 out of warrant for free in this case. Why can't SCEA do the same?

dude that sucks,

but i dont know if this article is trying to make sony look like there losing, its a little confusing, are they saying PS3 isnt going to last that long, i read the article and its just dumb!

Also my PS3 works great for me ive recently boughten a bunch of PSN games having a blast with those.

It meant the Ps3 has just STARTED on it's path to greatness. And it will be supported for about as long as the ps2. And if we learned anything from the ps2, the PS3 will walk away epic and at least somewhere near being on top. (Obviously Wii is an exception...)

PS3 has been out for 2 years and a month or so. In that time I wonder how many positive articles were written saying how great a system it is compared to the negative articles like these? What do you think, a number on that has to be a joke, I'm thinking maybe a 1 to 100 ratio?
