The Japan Preview: 1/11 Edition (SW + HW Down Sharply as Holidays End)

The roller coaster of Japanese sales seen every holiday between late November and mid January has begun its descent from the apex of the few last few weeks. Hardware and software sales, in line with historical seasonal trends are down sharply in the preliminary data. In the first full week of 2008, hardware sales dropped by roughly 50% across the board, and sales of the best selling games fell below 100,000 units. The preliminary data suggests that in the full week of 2009, hardware sales are down sharply and that once again no game has topped 100,000 units.
