AOL : Top 5 gadgets you shouldn't buy

AOL reports: "ADMIT IT: It's fun to be the first on the block to own the newest gadget. If nothing else, you get serious bragging rights. But when it comes to actually using that product, many early adopters discover that some kinks still need to be worked out.

Many first-generation products have so many little bugs that these highly anticipated toys simply don't live up to the hype. Making matters worse, consumers have to pay top dollar to get their hands on the newest technology. So unless you simply must have it, you're better off waiting until the next generation, says Tom Merritt, executive editor of CNET.

Here are five gadgets that you should wait to purchase.

1. High Definition DVD Players
2. PlayStation 3

No matter how you spin it this article is bullsh*t. I only see 2 items on that whole list that might not catch on. Everything else is wait this wait that. The other three will be common place. The main two item i know aren't going any where soon are Microsoft Vista and Sony Playstation 3, mainly due the amount time, money, and effort put into those products. And the 10 megapixel camera, that will become just as common place the 4,5,6,7 megapixel cameras. That is the just evolution of the digital camera.

sorta like, b or g or b/g or a... now there is n. Sounds confusing. I've got one that does b/g/a, I guess a is best for gaming...?

Cable is better then wireless if you had the choice.

802.11a, or 802.11g are both 25 - 54Mbit/s

802.11a uses the 5 GHz band so it might have less interference as opposed to the 802.11g that uses the 2.4GHz band.

A had superior speed (b/s)
B had a serious range advantage
G was a compromise - speed close to A with the range of B
N is going to have superior speed and range to any of the above but since the standard isn't finished drafting and set in stone companies are releasing "pre-N" product (basically their best guess at what the standard "Will BE") buying pre-N means that your new router may (or may not) be able to be firmware flashed to fall in line with N standards. Meaning you may have planned ahead and saved or gotten shafted!

N draft will also be capable of working with A/B/G standards, which I beleive what the wait is for.

Hm. They have a point. I wouldn't have bought the ps3 at launch in the US. I'm gonna wait and see what the updated firmware brings in the Euro launch...and then the extra games coming out in March + and then get it. So yeah I'd swing with the waiting thing.

Wait for the 10megapix camera? Yeah til it goes down in price when they bring out a 16megapix one....
