Microsoft lifts download limit for Windows 7 beta

Acknowledging that its release of Windows 7 beta on "was not ideal," Microsoft said it will remove the 2.5 million download limit through January 24.

Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc announced the move in a company blog Saturday:

Due to an enormous surge in demand, the download experience was not ideal so we listened and took the necessary steps to ensure a good experience. We have clearly heard that many of you want to check out the Windows 7 Beta and, as a result, we have decided remove the initial 2.5 million limit on the public beta for the next two weeks (thru January 24th). During that time you will have access to the beta even if the download number exceeds the 2.5 million unit limit.

I downloaded this and it said I have to burn it to a DVD in order for me to put it on the system.

That's LAME!

This is what you need to do: Shut down your computer. Permanently.

I can't get any of the windows 7 downloads to work after it installs, 32bit goes into standby when it boots up after install, and the 64bit one just shows a blackscreen but says "Windows 7 beta 7000, for testing purposes only" at the bottom right of the screen

Anyone else have this problem?

I,m actually running it now and I am liking it so far! seems to be better than vista but it's still too early to tell.

well its not exactly hard to run better than vista lol, the big question is whether it runs better than linux/mac which have been better for YEARS. I suppose it might even be worth seeing if it runs better than Windows 98 (the ONLY half-decent operating system M$ ever made)
