IGN Preview: Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena Hands-on

IGN: 2004's Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was a genuine sleeper hit, the quality and technical excellence of Starbreeze's Xbox adventure as unexpected as one of its titular hero's stealthy attacks.

Some five years on and it looks like the Swedish developer has another shock up its sleeves; its follow-up, Assault on Dark Athena, has all the makings of being one of the surprise gems of 2009. Whereas early reports of Starbreeze's latest had the game down as an HD retread of one of the original Xbox's finest moments, the surprise this time out comes in the shape of the additional content.

Assault on Dark Athena can lay claim to being a full-blooded sequel and our generous hands-on time confirmed this as a worthy follow-up that builds upon the strong foundations of the original in every conceivable way.
