"Father, why do the villagers hate us so?" the young prince querulously asks the king as they lounge by the fire. "Oh, I don't know," sighs the weary king. It seems like an unremarkable way to begin a game, right? Until you realize both king and prince are large, disembodied hands. Once you know that, so many questions arise. Like: Who would have guessed that hands were so introspective? Or that they could become despots? What is the sound of one hand sitting? When hands sit, do they sit on "Handchairs"?
The answers to these questions and more can be found in Pillage the Village, the stupendously sadistic prequel to XGen Studios' web/WiiWare title, Defend Your Castle. Okay, the game doesn't really answer anything, but it's still one of the most fun free games out there.
