Random Gamer's Review of the Samsung Omnia Smartphone

AndyGoes writes, "After quite some time working with an LG VX-8350 with faulty Bluetooth and a bum speaker, I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my cell phone. I had a few criteria that had to be met. First of all, it needed to be a smart phone. I have recently started a job that requires a lot of travel so I need to have access to my calendar and email from the road. Second, I wanted a touch screen. I know that they can be kind of gimmicky, but using a smart phone without a touch screen can be a bit of a hassle. Third, I have a company car and policy states that I need a hands-free device, so good Bluetooth was a must. Last, in order to save money, I'm still on a family plan with my folks through Verizon, so it needed to be something that the Big Red offered.

Eventually I chose the Samsung Omnia. I had to wait a while for a decent phone – anyone that's on Verizon knows that the selection has been pretty scarce until just the last month (the BlackBerry Storm and HTC Touch Pro were also recently released). I've had the phone for about three weeks and have definitely appreciated its functionality..."

It might be compatible with your network.

Nextel is on Sprint isn't it? And I am happy with my iPhone.

CrAppleton3240d ago

True.. But I think I might have trouble convincing my company to buy me one of those..

bgrundman3240d ago

Too bad the iPhone is so closed to platforms... this is why devices like the Omnia still stand a chance.

This phone looks slick, but it is no iPhone.

ammonator3240d ago

Agreed, nothing compares to the original Jesus Phone!

CrAppleton3240d ago

I don't think any phone can match the iPhone

Neco5123240d ago

not even close to the iphone, i think @crappletons nextel would be as cool as this

ill stick to iphone

CrAppleton3240d ago

Yeah.. I will admit though.. this looks cooler than my phone..

Neco5123240d ago

well that was a joke, but this phone does look neat

bgrundman3240d ago

This phone makes mine look like a Picasso painting and not in the good way either.

thereapersson3240d ago

So no copy and paste? Oh, and what's that? You can't send MMS messages without jailbreaking your phone? How about allowing any third party app on your phone without having to go through a store?

The iPhone isn't even a smartphone. I don't know where people get the idea that it does everything.

Anybody think developers will ever develop for the Windows Mobile platform, when the iPhone is all the rage?

JimmyJames703240d ago

Hmm, I might have gone with the Blackberry Storm, but I hear it does not support WiFi.

CrAppleton3240d ago

Well that's a killer right there

bgrundman3240d ago

The Storm doesn't support WiFi? I thought that was standard with most BlackBerry products... :(

roblef3240d ago

That's just foolish. Why would htey do that if they want to compete with the Jesus Phone?

You could not be more correct... now I need a good excuse to get one!

roblef3240d ago

Man, you stole my comment! The iPhone rocks way to hard to consider any competing phone.
