1UP sold to Hearst, EGM magazine closes?

What They Play writes: "Media business website posted a story this morning with the headline "Ziff Davis sells 1UP digital network to Hearst, shutters EGM" but has since removed the piece from its website. The original content of the text is still visible using an RSS reader, and it stated:

Looking to conserve its resources for its PC Mag Digital business, Ziff Davis Media has sold off the 1UP Digital Network, its collection of video game sites, to Hearst Corp., which will fold it into the UGO Entertainment division, the companies said. In conjunction with the sale, the related print mag Electronic Gaming Monthly will publish its last issue this month. Terms of the deal were not disclosed."

I don't feel bad for 1up. Bunch of fanboys...

KidMakeshift3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Now Shane Bettenhausen will finally STFU... by force

Bitter Tears3477d ago

This is all true BTW,

Ziff Davis sold 1UP to UGO, the leaked CEO email to the 1UP team inside.

All I can do is laugh at you poor sods above and maybe those who may come after this comment to come in here to say, "LOL, HAHA FANBOY 1UP GOES DOWN WHOO, _____ CONSOLE IS #1".

Economical crisis and the staffs eventual lay offs is funny?

If any of you have a job, which judging by your childish demeanor over "teh biased media", you're possibly young child sitting behind the computer thinking that the media is biased or "fanboyish" and are without any financial problems due to having parents or you don't have that much financial responsibility.

Either way, consoles don't mean sh*t at all right now.

1UP wasn't even close to biased, please take that conspiracy trash away.

Honestly, minus the actual part where it's 1UP, because only on N4G is 1UP thought to be biased, and imagine if a friend who works at a car manufacturing factory gets laid off.

Would you remark, "Good, he was making American cars anyways."?

I'm actually posting yet AGAIN, I barely lurk here or comment here anymore but it's only times like this where I actually have to step in. I don't really want to get into the PS3>360 or 360>PS3 articles on the front page because it's worthless.

N4G is actually as bad or worse than Gamefaqs in terms of actual knowledge and fanboyism in the gaming industry. I don't come here much anymore. There's a reason for this.

TheExecutive3477d ago

Fvck that. Shane makes the 1up yours hilarious. They better leave 1up podcasts alone... or else...

*Squints eyes*
*Dusts off Shotgun*

Seriously though... friday's will be forever unconfirmed? Fvck that.

Violater3477d ago

This sucks and anyone glad this actually happened is a twat!

TheExecutive3477d ago

Also, the podcasts both video and sound have been cancelled. UGO just took away any reason for me to visit 1up.

God, that [email protected] had it coming!

YESYESYESYESYES!!! I'm going to swim in his tears and roll around in money, then burn it in celebration of his failure of a life.

Whoever hated Sony deserves to be on the streets now. That's what you get for having a sh!tty opinion!!!

For as long as there is 1UP your i am fine with it. But they could loose David Ellis.

BRG90003477d ago

Amen, their podcasts are by far their largest asset in my eyes. If those don't go anywhere then other changes won't bother me.

TheExecutive3477d ago

yep...1up yours stays and the rest can go as far as I am concerned.

Bitter Tears3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Matt Chandronait had been laid off: off of his Twitter,

"No longer has a job. Neither does most of Gamevideos. No more 1UP Show. Thank you, all of you, for the run!"

Ryan O'Donnell had been laid off

so 1UP Show as far as it seems, deader than Elvis.

1UP Yours is probably next.

Bigrhyno3477d ago

Fridays were always one of my favorite days of the week because of 1up =/.

ry-guy3477d ago

1UP FM, 1UP Show, and Retronauts are staples of my podcast library.

I'll miss the backlogs with 1UP FM too :(

I'm not a fan of 1UP, but I did like reading EGM magazine. Whenever the older Official Playstation magazine published it's last magazine issue in 2006, they recommended EGM, so I subscribed and it's the only reason why I did. For a pretty long while EGM was the only gaming magazine I read until Playstation The Official Magazine started it's first publication last year.

If EGM does close up shop, I guess I'll have to find other multi-console magazine to subscribe to and I will probably go with GameInformer.

Megaton3477d ago

I've got a box full of dozens of old EGM's. Didn't think I'd see them end the magazine so soon.

specialguest3477d ago

Unfortunately, my old EGMs are in terrible condition. Hey, I was a kid back then who had no concept of certain items being worth something someday.

I kinda miss the old EGM of the 90s. Long live Sushi-X.

Megaton3477d ago

About 1/3 of mine are in pretty crappy condition also. I've even got a few issues of EGM2.

cervantes993477d ago

I remember in the mid 90s just before the PS1 came out reading EGM for hours. Back then, the magazine was the size of a Sears catalog and there was SNES, Genesis, CDi, 3DO, Sega Saturn, Gameboy, SNK. The mag currently is so thin that it is a shell of what it once was. Sushi-X was great!

There was so much game content. I considered that the golden age of gaming.

EGM will be missed.
