Championship Manager Dev Reports 90% Piracy Rate

Shacknews writes: "Following in the unfortunate footsteps of World of Goo, developer Beautiful Game Studios' claims that its Championship Manager series of PC soccer simulators is the victim of a 90% piracy rate.

I find it kinda hilarious that I've only ever seen people play pirated versions of the game. And from what I saw.. I can see why.. lesson learned devs? People don't buy crappy games, they steal them when they're bored of the good ones.

I could never bring myself to pirate it, but I won't buy a digital copy if a hard copy is available. Luckily I managed to find the last one at my local Fry's. I was actually about to install it before taking a detour to n4g just now.

Heh, Bill Gates reported a 90% piracy rate in 1976.

Piracy will exist as long as people want things for free. You can't really do anything about it except live with it or develop a ridiculously restricting anti-piracy system that creates a very closed environment, but even that will be cracked in time.
