While NCSoft remains mostly silent about the upcoming patent "war", they have stated that they will defend themselves vigorously against the patent "troll".
http://www.google.com/paten... all this patent is about avatar XYZ axis positioning in a virtual world. "A method for enabling a first user to interact with other users in a virtual space, wherein the first user and the other users each have an avatar and a client process associated therewith, and wherein each client process is in communication with a server process, wherein the method comprises." Every MMORPG has this in some way or another. It's like holding a patent for text communication in an MMORPG. Who allowed this patent to pass it's as generic and oxymoron as communication by text.
I'm right with you there. This is an egregious manoeuvre by a money-grubbing company that is NOT a friend to gaming. I wish NCSoft could just shut em up in court, but in all likelihood I guess they'll settle and Worlds.com gets a fat check to continue their crap operation.
Hell the description is so vague they could hit any online game going. Most online games have 3d avatars which you control and allow you to communicate with the other players. Some serious changes have to be made to the patent system. Currently it simply prevents progress.
The first Alternative Sources to this story is just me saying the same thing on a forum. Thought it was funny.
