Gaming addiction: a symptom hiding the real problem?

The National Institute on Media and Family releases an annual report card for the gaming industry, and this year's report painted a very rosy picture indeed. Unfortunately, those findings were somewhat tainted by the knowledge that the NIMF accepted a cash donation from the Entertainment Software Association. Next year's report card could be very interesting.

I've met a few people that get into games to reduce stress etc and end up becoming more stressed because they become obsessed.

Gaming is just like any type of drug. It takes you away from the "real world." If used in small doses, its nothing bad. But those that just use its as a hobby and nothing more, it could ruin their lives. I played WoW for 3 years STRAIGHT and almost lost my girlfriend 3 times. It finally came to a point where I had to choose between WoW and my girlfriend. Of course I choose the latter.
