Nintendo announced that a new Video Channel would become available in Japan early this year. TV execs and those who work in the television industry, however, are not anticipating its release.
LMAO, great now more people gonna hate them xD I don't think it will have that much impact since Nintendo will provide a certain amount of content. Not the whole TV library?
I wouldn't be worried. Sure VoD is great and all, but I'd rather pay a flat monthly fee for unlimited TV than the pay-as-you-go model that many VoD services that are currently around.
People want to see videos in HD if they have a HD tv...something not even possible with the wii. Plus the wii is gonna have to stream this tv stuff...the PS3 will already do it for free with HULU.com...the Xbox 360 will do it with gold membership with a netflick account.
Since when is HD required for VOD? Some how I dont think you understand whats being said.
Japan, isn't converted to SD yet, they will be soon. Their whole TV network will go HD. Meaning Nintendo will make a HD console(and they said they will, they said it in an interview) and then add HD content. As of right now lots of Japanese household still use SD tv's. So unless japan is just like you...i'm not sure if your statement works that easy. Also, remember, they will promote lots of anime with it. Think, would KIDS care about HD if they have HD hardware?
i lOl'd, wii cant even handle HD movie lol.
Really? All it does is RESTRICT the output video, but no one ever said it can't handle HD movies. (note: I'm talking resolution)
im talking about the quality!! Wii is a PS2 dressed up like a MAC!
Really? Evidence supports the words right? Present them.
ask any1 on this site!
Wow Sidar, you really are delusional. "All it does is RESTRICT the output video, but no one ever said it can't handle HD movies. " HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO - High-definition (HD) video generally refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, most commonly at display resolutions of 1280×720 (720p) or 1920×1080 (1080i or 1080p) WII'S VIDEO OUTPUT CAPABILITIES - * 480p (PAL/NTSC), 480i (NTSC) or 576i (PAL/SECAM), standard 4:3 and 16:9 anamorphic widescreen * MultiAV multi-output port for component, composite, S-video, RGB SCART and VGA .... it can't handle HD content. PERIOD.
First of all, No not delusional, I asked for evidence because mister knows it all. His response: Ask everyone. second are you a moron? That's what i said. Wii has a RESOLUTION RESTRICTION. The wii itself doesn't allow resolutions above 480P. THATS WHAT I SAID. There is a huge difference between "handle" and "not able too". Wii still supports Component cables, if you are telling me it's not possible to send out a 1080P resolution trough those cables than you my man are the delusional one. Are you telling me that if Wii gets an update to output 720P/1080p its not able to "handle" a HD resolution movie? I don't really know, therefor show evidence it can't. Mister xlx seems to know it all, well then show evidence. But his pathetic answer shows that i'm talking with someone who can't be taken serious. Let me rephrase my question: With the power of the Wii, how do you know it can't handle a 1080P movie?
If it can't output it, it can't handle it. Just because you can use component cables with it doesn't mean it is an HD capable machine. Anyways... Keep fighting the good fight, what would Nintendo do without you.
*facepalm* In it's current state it's not ABLE TO. HANDLE is something else. Is it really that hard? And don't be BS me calling me a fanboy( that's what you did). If you read my comments I'm ASKING for evidence that it can't handle a HD movie. I'm talking in terms of power.
"If it can't output it, it can't handle it." It can't handle DVD playback either, only, it can after a mod. Face it, you have no idea if the Wii actually has the capabilities to deliver HD video content. And nor does anyone else.
What kind of pansy execs are afraid of a nintendo video channel?? I personally can watch pokemon and the supermario bros super show only so much before i'll turn it off.
BTW, there is only 1 source for this article http://business.timesonline... (follow the links in the articles) And it was only ONE exec at Fuji saying that this could be an item of concern. Maybe he thinks that the Wii has DVD playback, good online and is HD capable? "One senior executive at Fuji Television, Japan's biggest commercial broadcaster, told The Times that if plans by Satoru Iwata, the Nintendo president, to make the Wii “the centerpiece of the living room” took off in a meaningful way, Nintendo's ambitions were “the stuff of television producers' nightmares”. " I don't think Mr. Fuji exec realizes the Wii's hardware limitations. Of course he knows it's a hugely popular source of entertainment for Japanese consumers, but I believe he's allowing himself to be swayed by popularity over capabilites. Bluntly put. The Wii is not going to be putting TV broadcasters out of business any time soon.
Can you believe that the Wii's services could be more popular tha NXE's netflix and PSN's video store AND its Divx stream? EDIT: Well at least in Japan.
would they even sell any thing, since there isnt any type of huge storage system?? plus would they even allow R rated material on there??? Since nintendo is nintendo you know.
Well... the difference between the Nintendo service and the 360 and PS3 service is that Nintendo will offer only original content, like cartoons and family oriented stuff and anime. So, it's actually a wise decision. I have a 360 too, and of course, if Nintendo offers the same videos and movies as the 360, the obvious choice would be Netflix basically because the HD. But Nintendo will go the other way, offering original content: The Legend of Zelda cartoons, Mario, Metroid, Star Fox or Pokemon series and stuff like that. Some content will be free and some other will use Wii Points, all streamed. And the good thing is that this service is confirmed for USA. So, its a good thing to have both choices: Netflix for Hollywood movies and TV shows, etc. and Nintendo video service for the original content. And cartoons, well, they look good in 480p. You can check more info about the channel in gonintendo.com
Where you been hiding. You're impossible to find on Mario Kart. You Know Joe is in Tatsunoko vs capcom, right?
I actually ordered my copy of Tatsunoko vs Capcom last monday... it should arrive probably next week. The game looks great, and even if I'm going to buy the JP version, I hope the game get a US localization. In the Capcom forums, the PR guys said a few weeks ago that they are actually planning to bring the game to US, so there still hope for a locaization. As for Mario Kart Wii, I play almost every week online, in the nights, but rigth now I have a mess in my house, and my systems are not even online, because a lot of stuff is in boxes. I'm moving out, and I havent had a lot of free time to play.
Its not a PS2 dressed up like a mac. I looked at my old Kingdom Hearts and videos for the DS one and realized PS2 had way worse graphics than Wii. DS can handle KH just the same. I guess I never noticed cause I don't pay attention to graphics. But PS2 graphically held back the industry way worse than Wii could ever even try. Katamari, Kingdom Hearts, Tenchu, all bad graphics and don't get me started on RE4 PS2 Vs Cube. At least Oneechanbara on Wii and 360 look dang near identical. As does overlord.
I don't buy consoles to watch tv, I don't watch tv for that matter...Hulu ftw.
