Microsoft's 'How to Fix a Frozen 30 Gig Zune' Solution? "Wait until January 1st."

Earlier today, owners of 30 gig Zunes all over the world noticed their players suddenly, and inexplicably, brick. Moments ago, Microsoft's Zune team issued their official statement/solution on the manner.

The problem? The leap year messed up the internal clock. The solution? Just wait until January 1st, let the battery drain, and your Zune should work again.

"Official response for Zune 30 Freezing Issue (Zune 30gb stuck at reboot screen)

Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used).  The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year.  The issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009.   We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on."

i thought my zune was crashed and I started the reformat procedures. I'm so mad.

edit. checked my wife's 30gb zune and hers is frozen too.

I'm confused by this, wont your Zune just think its Jan 1st not end of Dec?

aftrdark213484d ago

it just hangs up at the zune logo screen and the progress bar goes all the way to the end and freezes. I hope it does "fix itself" tomorrow but we'll wait and see.

Vista crashed

Zune crashed

360 crashed and burned

I await Windows 7 to crash as well.

Your the sort of person that sits there typing your hate for Microsoft using Windows XP. Man there are some very special people in this world is all I can say. As for vista crashing am using it right now since when? Am just smart enough to get past the very few minor bugs if any at all.

O and my Xbox 360 which I bought at launch still hasn't burnt. I guess if you use your products like a caveman that's what you can expect.

Unfortunately the PS3 hasn't even been able to start going to even have a chance of crashing yet.

Ah wrong again, there are more then 19 million ps3 sold thus far. It's a mere 6 mill behind the 360. And the 360 had a years head start.

GameCyteSean3484d ago

...but will it happen again after the next leap year in 2012?

ambientFLIER3484d ago

Are people really going to keep their music players for 6 years? (2006 zune)

Nathan Drake3484d ago (Edited 3484d ago )

Sounds fair, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

ahnonamis3484d ago

But how could they have known that things such as leap years exist!

"Sounds fair, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place."

Thanks genius; the rest of N4G wasn't actually sure whether or not this should or should not have happened.
