Game play video of White Knight Chronicles only on the ps3
looks beautiful 4 a jrpg
this one is a looker. stunning and beautiful graphics combined with a unique and interesting gameplay elements. i'm sold! can't wait for the US version.
WKC is the same as FFXII but in HD... I'm not saying that like it is a bad thing but is not unique in any way. Or are you talking about the online aspect? Because that's pretty unique. This is the first Jrpg ever with something like that I think.
In Level 5 I trust :) (now please make another Jeanne D'arc type game for the PS3)
I wonder what exactly they are talking about? This JRPG doesn't do much, and personally I still think, it's doesn't look as polished, but that's just me. Final Fantasy 13 killer my @ss. Reminds me of FF12 with IU(western) characters. I'll still get it though. Not much JRPG's on PS3
All ive seen is melee so far it looks great but I wonder how much deeper it gets spells, ability's etc... and if theres haste items and spells. At first I was meh towards ff12 but Its a 9/10 in my book.
famitsu is full of sh!t. this game looks awesome. @arika lol ur avatar saboteur class ftw
Did you guys see the same gameplay video as me? I mean the setting looks like a Fable 2 wannabe. And the combat, the person was simply button mashing combo over and over again. Very innovative.
I'll be fair and compare it to FF12. Am i the only one who noticed the emptiness of the town? I mean, the walkway/streets are gigantic yet you only see a handful of people walking around or doing something. They should have opted for something that FF12 did and had lots of NPCs that dont really do anything but they do fill the streets. I was hoping that the gameplay was more like Kingdom Hearts or Tales of the World in which you constantly attack and not have to wait for a time interval deal. That would have been more innovative. Either way, i'll just wait for FF13 Versus or the other. I cant see myself enjoying this game even with co-op.
Fair comment and I agree PS3 fans really need to stop over-hyping our games , but I think it's also not fair to really judge the game based soley on one video , but it does wreaks some-what FF12-ish...which is a good/bad thing in my book. Im still looking forward to this game because I haven't really played a good JRPG on my PS3 and im a huge fan of Level 5 games. And one last thing FF9 and FFX is two of the best FF games ever created....with the edge going to FF9 IMO...I just love that game..
FFX is really good I suggest you give it another try the battle system is pure genious plus the Sphere Grid...good story also FFX-2 was just to tie up loose ends I guess but I didn't really like it to be honest seems like they were just trying to milk FFX success..
Story and characters better be good though, honestly, Square should sue. This looks VERY familiar...haha
I was excited for this game, but the combat system is really lacking. Meh, I just hope this isn't the only exclusive RPG that they'll make
I've been watching the game on justin.tv all day and it plays alot like FF12 which isn't a bad thing. But please don't overhype this game...it's a good RPG but I didn't see anything to go OMG EPIC over, I don't know if it's the guy being a n00b and not doing the combos or what, but the combat didn't look much like the first trailer with the main character counter attacking with his shield and helping his friends out. It's the same 3rd person view, same command text on the upper left corner, same attack while a meter goes up which either you can do a combo or transform. I'm still picking it up because it'll probably be the best RPG out when it arrives, I just don't want PS3 fans to be upset if this game gets lower than an 8.5 or an 8. It's gonna be good, I'm just saying reviewers aren't going to give this game the props you think it deserves if you think the game is going to change the world of RPGs as we know it, or whatever hype everyone is carrying on about. Any game that's not "innovative" for PS3 is never going to get props and judging from the game, they're going to compare it to everything, maybe even Gears for some stupid reason. @Danja - FFX was great, FFX-2...published by Square-Enix, you hit the nail on the head. Milking the hell out of it... http://www.justin.tv/esegk link to the streaming of the game
If you loved FFXII (I did for gameplay...story and characters sucked) then you should go for this game. HOWEVER, this is not the revolution, FFVII OMG GOTY title some of the Sony crowd were hyping it to be. Day one for me, love the vid. Great visuals, solid music, and the feel and atmosphere is pure Ivalice. I'll be buying into this and may even be more hyped for it now just for what it represents than any other title releasing next year.
i agree. i'm looking forward to this game and it will probably be a day one purchase but it will probably be lucky to get a few 8's out of reviewers. don't over hype it, you're just setting yourself up. I don't know how the combat system works but it looks like a mix between FFXII and Xenogears. I would love it if it was a mix between FFXII, Xenogears, and Legend of Dragoon. that would be sick. I really just don't know how the combo system works though.
Man i stopped playing RPG's cus i wasted so much time in them but i might have to do an exception Lol
Surprised by the graphics. Most japanese developers make crappy looking games (outside of MGS4, and Capcom). Looks very good for a rpg, probably on a higher level graphical fidelity than fable 2 (looks slightly worse than Mass Effect though).... Looks better graphically than fallout 3, and oblivion though.
You're not serious are you? I think this game looks better than Mass Effect, that game was amazing but the detail was really bland, but really WNC looks like a Fable 2 wannabe, that city could of been dropped straight from Albion. And Fallout 3 destroys this in graphics in every single way.
@ lord_of_balrogs This is to be expected. Let them have their hopes and believe what they must. A lot of hopes are riding on this because of the lack or JRPGs on the PS3. They need this to do well to keep their sanity.
Umm, how many different interpretations of a Medieval Fantasy city can you -really- have? It's not a "Fable 2 Wannabe" it's simply using the same typical fantasy setting. There were PLNETY before Fable 2, and I imagine there will be plenty after.
Apparently Fable invented Medieval Fantasy settings...
he's saying it doesn't look as good as mass effect. Did he edit or are you guys getting the wrong end of the stick here. Fallout graphics were not that great in my opinion. What was so great about them?? White Knight C graphics look as if they have aged to be honest. I would prefer better graphics of course but if they deliver a glitch free rpg with a great story ill be glad. Im tired of UE3 and you should be too if you know what i mean. Merry xmas LOL @ 'Fable 2 wannabe', yeah that pioneering title just like Gears pioneering cover system right? Not to be disrespectful but some people may over hype games whilst overs think that their games were the blueprint that other games copy.

While Mass Effect was a good game the graphics weren't the best it could be and it had some framerate issues. Frankly, Fallout 3 was gorgeous, well the 1st person perspective was gorgeous, the third person was plain hideous and revolting to look at. WNC is a Fable 2 wannabe, it looks and feels the exact same as Fable 2 but the JRPG elements tacked on. That being the combat. Obviously, Fable 2 is not the pioneering title for this setting but it definetly brought it to the next level, WNC looks like it wants to emulate this level but it obviously doesn't do that great of a job. Gears wasn't a pioneering title for the cover system but it brough it to the next level as well.
what can i say, merry x mas and that was a fair reply. Ill wait for wkc to be released before i compare it to fable 2 but i see where ur coming from almost. Im not sure fable bought anything to the next level to be fair but thats ur opinion and ur entitled to it. The combat videos from e3 or tgs looked WAY better than the ones shown recently. I also think uncharted borrowed from and improved on the gears cover system but i wouldnt call it the uncharted cover system just the cover system used in uncharted
looking great!!! interesting combat system. open world in a jrpg? SOLD!
i cant wait
the very 1st second made me WOW!!!!. It looks beautiful seriously it does. Very good. I'm leaning more to getting this game in 09 now.
Ive never even played a RPG in my life and im 24 years old, im mostly into the action, multiplayer shooters but for some reason just watching this gameplay vid had me hooked almost like i was actually playing it.. I might have to broaden my horizons and check this out when it comes out during the in between times im taking a break from owning noobs on Killzone 2 :)
u should check out oblivion, Fallout 3, Mass effect, u may like fable 2 but graphics are not good i hated rpgs till i played oblivion and mass effect
The game doesn't look amazing but it does look good and worth a play through. It also looks deep so I'm going to keep my eye out for this one when I decide to get a PS3.
Im not overly impressed visually but hopefully the game play is the defacto in this title like some people feel about the halo games
As much as i loved Joan of arc from lvl 5, isnt there anyone here that considers this game too look empty and dull ? I dont understand the hype for it, it seems underachieving compared to joan of arc and dragon quest 8.
The setting looks like it came straight from Fable 2's Albion. The only difference being the mini map and the combat. And the combat was button mash combo over and over.
Heh and funny thing is, i lost a bunch of bubbles in the past (when the first info was shown) cause i said in the gamer zone that the game doesnt looks very special. Cant even state my opinion anymore in the gamer zone.
you do realize that when the first information about this game was revealed back in 2006, there was no open/gamer zones. it was just one comment section. So I'm gonna have to call BS on that claim.
The gamer zone/ Open Zone were created early this year ..so obviously you are lying Fox ..
the first info i saw was earlier this year, i thought that was the first info. My mistake.
I am looking forward to this one.
Looks good, I'll give it a try.
this games plays just like ff online. almost like they copied the same concept. even the battles are the same. i think i just lost interest in this game.
nice graphics but looks way too much like Final Fantasy 12 for the ps2.
I'm a PS3 fanboy and an even bigger fan of JRPG's so it pains me to say that after seeing that video, I'm losing interest in this game. I was sooo looking forward to it too. The combat reminds me of World of Warcraft. This might as well be a WRPG. Whatever happened to good 'ol JRPG?. Seems like all of them are going this route now with the boring hack n slash combat! One of things I liked with JRPG combat is the over the top special moves. Well, hopefully the story is good and the character are likeable and have good development. Music was boring too. Very forgettable so far, so I'm hoping things get better there as well. And yes, I already know I'll get disagrees, but those are my honest feelings on this.
Onizuka as Spoken.
...you're losing interest, not because of this video but by the 29/40 it got in Famitsu? You sheep.
Sheep? You don't know me well enough to make such a claim. I honestly thought the 29/40 was pretty harsh as well, but I'm honestly not feeling the hack n slash combat. I can overlook those things though if everything else is good (story, characters, music, etc.). I guess I'll see.
how on earth can you call an action RPG(or hack n slash) boring? especially compared to turn-based. that just not logical, because turn-based combat is the SLOWEST type of combat in video games.
I guess I'm just old school. I liked the flashy special moves and finishing moves, cinematics and all that from older JRPG's. To me, spamming the X button is boring. It's faster but so what? I don't see how faster equates to more exciting. But like you said, everyone has personal preference so there's no right or wrong. I guess the kind of JRPG's I grew up with and like are a dying breed now.
Raimon Taro knows what I'm talking about. I didn't like FFXII either. (I liked all FF's from 10 down) Tales series is fun /agrees
i guess i can understand that. and taping the same button repeatedly isn't exactly the greatest thing in the world. I'm waiting for an RPG that has combat like Ninja Gaiden. Where it's action but not necessary relying on one button. Maybe Versus XIII. and it's not like I hate turn-based combat, I did the old Pokemon games(which i'm not very proud of).
Ash, same here. I have high hopes for Versus (and FFXIII but more so with Versus).
FF Versus is my most anticipated RPG Nomura is making it so that alone makes me excited for it , plus it seems to more dark , and emotional than FF13.... he said consider it as the dark version of KH...sweet
say how u feel man. Im not disappointed but im not impressed either and I also hated FFX2. No map screen and the combat system enough to kill it for me @ Danja Yep i feel the FF will grow be growing up when that gets released. Definitely more adult. I hope they pull it off.
Yeah I'm really liking the direction Versus' style is going with. I can't wait to see how that story unfolds. @ Why o why Don't get me wrong. It's still on my radar. Afterall I enjoy JRPG's for all the elements not just combat. If everything else is cool. I'm getting it, but the combat part so far is disappointing to me that's all.
Graphically it does look like an HD FFXII, but let's remember people Square is the only developer that makes RPGs that actually have impressive up to date graphics. The video was boring as hell but of course the combat has more to it than just regular MMO "Stand In Front of The Guy And Slash" BS. Jesus it's one video, stop acting like it represents the full breadth of gameplay. But seriously, Level-5 certainly didn't do themselves any favors waiting so long to give people a good look at the game.
1st Day Purchase for me!
Well am not holding all that much hope for it but I will be buying it regardless. I already own Valkyria Chronicles and Diseaga 3 so I plan to buy every exclusive J-RPG for the PS3. I couldn't be less interested in games like Fall out 3 there far to Americanized.
Considering Bethesda is American...........
You want to buy every PS3 exclusive JRPG? Be prepared to throw away a lot of money on sh!t. Looking back at PS2, there were a lot of crummy JRPGS. I'm not saying the 360 doesn't have any bad JPRGS, however saying you want to buy every exclusive will only end up as a waste of money. I actually prefer American RPGs. They're generally real-time battles, you can move your character around during battles, and you don't have to surf menus for 2 minutes for each attack.
Plus, the combat is based on statistics and skill level. Say you want to use a sniper rifle, 1 being you suck with it and 100 being a sniper god. If you have your sniper skill at say 20, chances are even if you aim accuratley at a person in real time, you'll still miss because your skill isn't high enough.
Already own all the 360 J-RPG's well most of them and iv tried to love games like fall out but the character design and story makes me want to pull my eyes out. So I think ill stick to the RPG style I have played and loved since the PS1 before all the lame American stuff. And please for the love off god stop disagreeing with my personal opinion on what makes a good game its ignorant. "Considering Bethesda is American..........." Your point being I never said I didn't like American characters just fall out 3 style games.
You really are missing out when it comes to Fallout 3. It is such a fun game. The other night i lobbed a grenade in VATS and it blew a raider up in the air and split him in half on a pole that was right in front of me. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would you buy a game that you "don't have much hope for". That is one of the biggest Fanboy statement this month. Just because its exclusive doesn't make it good. Look at Too Human and Haze.
Yeah am a fanboy because I buy all the J-RPG's on the 360 and PS3 retard...
This game looks like Final Fantasy XII...excellent I loved FFXII I can't wait to play WKC
I agree 100% I liked FF12 battles system. Not many load screens since monsters where already there to fight.
Final Fantasy 12 didn't sit well with me, Running through that town yelling basch lives to everyone really wore on me. Its the only FF game that I didn't play more that once. But I know that hardly no one agrees with me that FF8 was their favorite.
FF12 was the first FF game that I actually was never interested in actually finishing I got to like 4Ohrs and stopped for like 6 months.. but I did finish it and the ending was mediocre .. and FF9 is my favorite FF game...well pardon 6 since no FF game will probably top that for a long time
