Halo 3 gets 'mute idiot' button

Bungie's latest Halo 3 update introduces a rather intriguing new function bound to the back button of the Xbox 360 pad. It sounds excellent.

Or rather, it'll refine the excellence of sound - by eliminating the sort of "vocal buttmunches" who help ensure the truth of the following equation: "Teenagers, plus anonymity, plus microphone = idiot."

The "A-Hole Button" as they're calling it brings up a score list with everyone's tag on it. By using the right stick, you can quickly select whichever player is smack-talking you into a stupor, and you won't hear from them again.

THANK GOD.

I will be able to fully enjoy this game.

The constant stream of idiots chatting away is one of the reasons why I have yet to really enjoy multiplayer experiences like this. Hopefully this will change that!

It would be good to see they implement this in the Live service itself to work with ALL games!

I know that option, but indeed, you need to go to the dashboard. What would be nice if it was like forced into the game, or in the blue prints for every game designer from MS to put in. Sorry I wasn't clear on that one

this has been around since the 360 launched. all you have to do is while playeing a game press the guide button then go to your recent players list select the person being a d!ck and "mute player" works with every game on live. all bungie did was make it quicker.

smack talk is one of the best parts of online gaming. It's the annoying 12yr old that yells the whole time is who will get shut up.

You hit the nail on the head. I can deal with smack talk. It's the 12 year old boys, that sound like girls that I can't stand.

Either way I am glad they made this easier. This will be my first Halo experience, and I am sure I will enjoy it that much more.
