Developing a blockbuster-like video game like Halo Infinite is already complex on its own, but when it takes place during a global pandemic, things get even more complicated.
Xbox Game Pass has some great single-player experiences, but nowadays, it's all about getting together with friends and family. Thankfully, there's a surprisingly extensive library of multiplayer titles on Game Pass to bring everyone together.
PS5-exclusive Helldivers 2 is so popular that Xbox players want a taste of democracy, and now Halo Forge will be the battleground for a Helldivers 2 remake.
Just get a PS5 and be done with it. Four Xbox exclusives are making their way over with more to follow down the road.
I remember the good old days of Halo 3 and the Forge. Some wild game games came from it.
Don't get this mentality. Nothing is stopping these people from buying a PS5
I don't get fanboyism and refusing to purchase a competitors console.
HA! All the while Xbox games are popping up in PS stores. To be honest, on day exclusivity will probably be gone and each will just provide a streaming service bundle, but why not have fun while we can.
Celebrate season two of the TV series by earning the awesome and exclusive Halo Infinite Silver Team helmets before they’re gone for good on Xbox.
Interesting read. Glad they turned things around, especially thanks to Staten.
- 343's tool set, Faber, was so difficult to use that they spent months considering a switch to Unreal. (They didn't)
- The game was delayed multiple times. One early plan was to release multiplayer in 2019 and campaign in 2020
“By the summer of 2019, Halo Infinite was in crisis
mode. The studio decided to cut almost two-thirds of
the entire planned game, leaving managers to instruct
some designers to come to the office and do nothing
while the studio figured out the next move. Eventually
the game's open world was cut back from a vast, Zelda- like experience into something far smaller. It soon become clear to some on the team that, even with the compromises, getting Halo Infinite into decent shape by the following fall would be impossible. Still, the timing of the release didn't seem up for discussion. Microsoft told 343 that it had to be a launch game for
the next Xbox, which meant releasing it in November
2020.”
“A month after the debacle with the demo, Staten rejoined 343 Industries, the Microsoft-owned gaming studio that makes Halo, as its creative director. One of the first things he did was remind the studio's demoralized staff that the franchise's long-running success had actually been marked by several bumpy introductions, including a disastrous demonstration of the very first Halo game in 2001 that almost doomed the series before it even got started. "We've had some rough demos over the years," he says.”
They turned it around, yes and they should get all the credit, but a live service game is not a triumph. It's a cheapening of the product.
Triumph? Well, it depends if gamers like it and buy it or not.
States definitely saved this game. It clearly shows.
