Ars writes: "It was a pleasant surprise when we learned back in September that the free-to-play MMO Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online would be making its way to North America. So when the closed beta started, we jumped at the chance to explore the post-apocalyptic world portrayed in the game. But just how well does the traditionally single-player franchise translate into a massively multiplayer game? Well, we spent some time with the game in order to find out.
SMT:IO takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Tokyo. Not only has the planet been destroyed by a series of nuclear wars and natural disasters, but what remains has been overrun by lots and lots of demons. The remnants of human society now live in scattered nuclear shelters, which have been retrofitted into small towns. As a brief tutorial, the game starts you out in one such shelter that has been infiltrated by a number of demons."
